Jess has ruined Heroes for me. Damn. Now when Peter whines a bit, I just want to go smack Jess, rather than feeling a little sorry for the poor boy. (I am rewatching. I am anxiously waiting for season 2.) _

I started Anna Karenina this week. I think it's the first thing I've read that's...particularly old?...since I graduated (things read at Penn don't count). I was going to read Iphigenia at Aulis (which is certainly shorter), but my sister ran off with my copy (she's directing it come spring). I think I like Anna Karenina, though, so it's all okay. _

My muffin this morning was slightly stale and it the top tasted slightly of onions. It was rather gross, in a blueberry muffin. _

I wanted to see Jon Stewart's coverage of the Gonzales resignation, so I actually watched it last night, mostly during it's original broadcast time. But he's on vacation, cause they were rattling on about the Chinese toy recall thing. And I was sad. _

I swear, when we are in a rush and something goes wrong with our computer system, our tech support people all leave. And then the guy who we're allowed to talk to tries to make excuses. We actually wound up almost screaming at each other today, he and I, over the phone, and I usually keep my temper with him. But Maria was saying no one gets to leave until everything is finished, and we found out at 11 that something was broken, and we were supposed to close at 12:30. We are all still here, except the temps, who had already worked their 40 hours, and went home. _

Brianne bought these shu mi from the frozen section at the new Harris Teeter. She made them last night. It made the house smell like dim sum. Apparently, they were terrible. Also, the house still smells like salty onions. _

I don't understand why people have cats. They are aloof and snotty and they make it so I can't visit you. _

My lacey scarf is nearly completed, all that's left is blocking (stretching and pinning while wet). I feel all mopey without an elaborate project to be working on, and I really don't want to work on Lara's sweater (which I pulled out last night but then I couldn't remember where I'd put the pattern). I have a book of lace patterns on its way to my house. And I am starting to create simple black cardigans to use up my black alpaca on. But as it is, blah... _

My parents last night insisted on taking the car that is friendly towards playing music off an iPod to drive back north. My sister and I felt left in a lurch. We had these silly little plug in speakers that were TERRIBLE. And no CDs, as we hadn't realized we'd wind up needing them, and an iPod is WAY easier to pack. We missed the first Radio Shack we drove by and then the first Target, and talked until we were really running out of things to say, which coincided with seeing a Target on the side of the highway. So we went to Target and wound up getting a nifty charging and radio transmitting plug and play iPod thingy. And then we were able to listen to Stephen Fry read Goblet of Fire, because there is nothing quite like an audio book to help you with a long car ride. _

I am home, where the wireless internet is normal and fast and doesn't flicker out as you sit on the couch. There were three wireless networks we could get on from our beach house, one was almost a decent speed, but would flicker in and out. One was a free thing available down the island, which was a totally nifty idea, but they way they paid for it was to have top inch of every page you opened have an ad. The ads would load faster than the page, and that was pretty slow. But, here, there is normal internet. _

Last night there was this spectacular thunderstorm out over the ocean so far away we could only see the lightning behind the clouds. It was incredibly spectacular. We sat at out on the deck on the dunes and watched the storm. There were a few people setting off fireworks, but they were lame fireworks, especially compared to the thunderstorm. When we woke up in the morning, the water was crazy. Also, the water was much much warmer than it had been during the week and the waves were going in the crashing in the other direction. Also, the intense heat wave has finally broken. _

We had a rather spectacularly hot few days, and then last night we had a lovely thunderstorm that broke long enough for us to eat on the porch and then came back in full force (there was a crash of thunder so loud I jumped out of bed). I think the heat has broken considerably. _

I tried taking Sam into the ocean with me yesterday. He was doing okay until there was a medium sized wave that broke like right on us. It would've been okay if I'd realized it was there and had picked him up over the wave, but as it was, I picked him up, and the wave knocked into my knees and down we both went, under the wave. He swam himself out (although I did hold him to guide him to make sure he wasn't just swimming in place), and then he was very scared of the water. He would sit on the beach, away from where the water was breaking. He snorted for like ten minutes, I figure he must've gotten water up his nose. _
