Tori's Bloglet

Going through work emails from two weeks ago (this is this weird thing we do at my office, we print out all the emails that come in and pass them around and read them again. It's loads of fun). I think I've actually gotten pretty good at firmly and politely saying no to people. "No, ma'am, I can't call your pharmacy and make them give you 12 months worth of generic drugs when your prescription says brand name only. Do I look like your doctor? I can't write a prescription." Besides which, why would she need 12 months of neo-natal vitamins anyway? _

I can't figure out how to make my new phone vibrate and ring at the same time. I also can't figure out how to nice and easily put it into something like my old etiquette mode, without messing with the volume button. _

I made fresh mint ice cream this weekend (twice) with mint picked out of the garden. It was amazing. It was one of those things where it was like you took a bite and your mouth sort of opened to this amazing fresh sweet flavor.

Also, cooking mint leaves in milk and cream and then leaving them in to soak does in fact make green ice cream. So, take that ice cream companies who are all "our mint chocolate chip ice cream is white because we don't use food dye". I used no food dye or mint extract, just pure, organic mint, and got green ice cream. _

Do you ever learn to do something just because? I swore once that I can knit anything I try. I do actually believe this is true, but we will see how the berry blue socks turn out before I swear this as truth (I have never knitted a sock and I don't really believe the pattern that this heel is going to turn. I am prepared to be pleasantly surprised). I knit my massively impressive black and burgandy flower sweater as much to prove to myself that I could as actually wanting the sweater. Unfortunately, I promised Lara I would make her the same sweater, in different colors, before I had a grasp of how much work this thing would be. I have now decided that I want to learn how to knit lace. I want to knit a shawl that you can pass through a wedding ring, mostly for the ability to say that I did it. This is an ambition that I will start easier on, though, than the ridiculous sweater that I need an external conscious to make myself work on. I will start with a lacy scarf, with yarn that is lace weight, and hence like 5 times the thickness of the gossamer stuff you need to use to make the kind of thing that will pass through a wedding ring.

And then, because I am like that, I will not keep the delicate lace white, I will dye it black. _

I feel like my head is going to split open and I honestly don't know if it's cause I didn't drink a cup of coffee this morning or because it's raining. Or both. I was trying to figure out something involving turning Dollars into Euros and I had to ask Jasmine like 10 times whether I was supposed to multiply the dollars or divide them. _

Okay, so, you know what would be cool? If, instead of being attached to service with AT&T, the iPhone were just always online. If you want to use it to make calls, you use Skype (or whatever other online phone system people are using. I use Skype). Also, if it weren't $600. That's absurd. _

So, if you are in Excel, and you have many of their tablike worksheet things open, is there a keyboard shortcut to switch between them? Or do you have to do it with a mouse? _

Word seems completely unaware that occasionally I might actually want to use the word advise instead of advice. Like, you know, when it's a freaking verb. Stupid Word. _

Oh, the beach, I have longed for the beach. First we were going to Maine. Then we were going to California. Then Maine again. Then, finally, I won the argument with my mom about where to go if we stay on the East Coast (I wanted to go to California), and we are going to Nags Head. Probably. _

My lovely bamboo soy sweater has gotten snagged on things twice today. I have pushed both of the pulled out stitches back in, and you can't notice them, but it makes me very very sad. I love my bamboo soy sweater. _

It amuses me when I hit a v instead of a b or vice versa. Granted, they are right next to each other on the keyboard, but I would guess that the creator of the QWERTY keyboard didn't put them net to each other based on b's turning into v's and vice versa. (According to my crazy Latin prof at Penn, more than half of the ancient Roman gravestones say "bixit" instead of "vixit".) _

I should just not read things that are suspenseful if I can't devote the chunk of time to finish it. This whole "oh, let's stop right when he's discovering things cause my lunch break is over" SUCKS. _

I do not want to do my job right now. I want to curl up in a ball and finish my book. I am sitting her hoping that Telemakos's astronomy lessons will not involve the Equant, and if they do, those lessons will not appear in the book. And I want to finish the top I am making, in the hopes of wearing it on Saturday to see Spring Awakening. _

I chopped my hair off again. It sits on my shoulders and is amazingly curly. Also, no longer damaged, which is a plus. I felt very decadant about the whole thing and had it cut at an Aveda salon in Old Town. _

I called the pen store that had been rude to me (how many times do you think it really ought to be necessary to ask two different people to sell you a bottle of ink) to find out if converters actually exist that go with the pen I bought. Apparently they do, in fact, exist, but they are sold out right now. They actually offered to take my phone number to call me when they come in, so at least that is taken care of. I feel mildly accomplished. Cartridges are dull. _
