So, we are in Bath. I'm beginning to think that I might not like Bath. It's lovely, but we have just been having rotten luck. As in Oxford, our bathroom smelled dreadful, and now my mom and I are having serious issues with changing our flights home. I'm going to stop fretting about it, and we're going to start hopping on the bus. It's a beautiful place. I need Nate and Rebekah's address, if anyone has it. I have written two postcards to the Katherine/Tracy/Amy household, and one to Moira. I will send more to anyone who gives me an address, cause I like sending postcards. _

You should go to google and type in "weapons of mass destruction" and then hit "I'm feeling lucky" instead of "search". And you should follow the links. It's really quite cute. My mom insisted that I try this, and it really is. _

The street performers were great. I saw two women singing opera half on the street, half in a restaurant, a guy get all bound up in 40 feet of chain and a straight jacket and then get himself out of it, some jugglers and this guy who didnt say a word, but did these bizarre human statue creations. I keep getting on the computer, because I'm planning the meet-up with my mom, I will probably stop after I meet up with her. _

Have been having a blast on an open double decker tour bus around London, with commentary and a free boat trip down the Thames, although my time on it recently expired. I am on my way back to my hostel, when I was drawn in by cheaper Internet Access. I'm going to dump my stuff in my room, ask the people at the Travel Desk if they can give me any advice about Orkney, and go to Covent Garden for street performers and lunch. And, if I can find it, pen stuff. I finally found safety pins, but I had to buy them. _

Comics in Britain, on the internet. 30 some seconds before my money runs out. The @ and the " are misplaced. How odd. _

In London, at the Internet Cafe in my hostel, watching the clock run down on how much time I have at this computer. I'd forgotten that a large reason I was here was I was looking for the addresses for the postcards I sent. I tried to read the Rosetta stone today, but people kept getting in the way. And it was in all caps, and there were no spaces. _

Yesterday I went off to a travel agent and got my BritRail pass. Or, well, I ordered the thing, and because of the holiday weekend, I spent a ridiculous amount of money to make sure I got it before I left, meaning they are overnighting it and I will pick it up today, it was promised to be here by 5 o'clock tonight, she said she'd call me, and I said I'd call her as well. Normally, they say it takes two days, but since Friday is the 4th, and I'm leaving on Monday, we needed to make absolutely sure that I got the thing. Then last night Chris and I went out to dinner, because his birthday was the day before, but he was really busy. We invited Zeb, and were in fact going to go to a different restaurant, but Zeb was working, and so we went to Zeb's restaurant, which was lovely, because Zeb works at a very nice restaurant, and he was our waiter. Our car, the lovely Insight car, died when we parked, and so when we were eating our desserts we called my friend Johanna to ask her to pick us up, and they were just sitting down to a huge meal she'd prepared, so she and her dad showed up more than an hour later, but that was fine, and nice, and we sat and talked, and had drinks for a while after they showed up. We had to stop twice to jump the car while on the road, and we drove with the lights off. Chris and I both had far too much to drink last night, and he's still sleeping, but I can't sleep, but I feel all queasy, so I called my work and said "hi, I'm sick, I can't come in, I'm sorry" and they're pissed off, but so what. That in and of itself makes me feel a little better, the not working thing, it means I can spend today finishing Nate and Rebekah's wedding present, and maybe even pack for Europe a bit, and then this evening I think I will head down to Annapolis. _

My digital camera loses it's charge after like one picture if I have the display on. I'm not entirely sure what to do, other than to keep the display off. Neil, you have the same camera I do, what do you do about it running it's batteries dry in a matter of minutes. _

Today I went off to my bank and deposited the tips I've made since last I went in, it turned out when I'd counted up my money I came out $11 less than when the machine did. Then I went off and photocopied my passport and my plane ticket, cause you're supposed to do that when you fly overseas, just in case. Then I went off and bought a lock, and while wandering around the grocery store trying to find something else to justify using my debit card rather than cash, I found out that Superfresh still sells my favourite pens, and they had one in black, so I was all excited, and I bought the black pen, and decided it would be my England pen and that I wouldn't use it til I was there. Then I went off to a different bank and dumped all my coins in a coin counting machine, which it did for free, and came out with bunches of money. Then I went off to HACC, to pick up information on the health insurance they offer their students, because Marija wants to come back to live with us, and go there, and her German health insurance won't let work in the states. Then I came home, and I couldn't find my passport or plane ticket, and I panicked, then I remembered that I put them in the glove compartment to keep them "safe." _

My sister and I are going to do tourist stuff in England for the last four days our trip. We're thinking it might be fun to take pictures of ourselves throwing ourselves at a barrier on King's Cross Station. (Apparently, they've actually had rather a lot of people doing just that, and it annoys some of the employees, probably cause stupid kids run really hard into it.) _

Johanna said I can borrow her hiking backpack, which will make my life just a little bit easier. She is going to be briefly in town this week, before heading off to Santa Fe for a wedding. Is 4th of July weekend normally a big wedding weekend? _

My neighbours were setting off fireworks earlier this evening. When first I heard them, I thought they were mostly loud noisemaking things, the things you can buy at any of the many tents that are springing up. My dogs, particularly Ellie, were freaking out, but they are easily spooked. I wandered out, to get in the hottub and read a book, and I found out that they were not, in fact, noisemakers you buy in a tent, but the big pretty sort, the sort that I think you have to go to Virginia to buy. I hadn't expected those to go off til the 4th. But it was nice, and I watched them from the hottub, through a few tree branches, and alternately read my book. It was very decadent. I thought of how nice it is that the Chinese invented firecrackers, and I thought of how nice it is to have neighbours who are willing to spend thousands of dollars on fireworks to set off over the lake. _

$106-ish for four nights in London. I have reservations for London. I have reservations for Charlottesville. Next up: reservation for Oxford, figuring out what to do after Bath. (Reservations made long ago for a lovely B&B in Bath.) Excited. Want to quit job very badly. Am considering not working on Thursday, and doing the packing thing instead. _

I have opened a new mail account, for my trip (I don't really know why, but I was possessed with this idea while booking a bed at a hostel in London. I didn't really want to give them the account I always use, and it's starting to fill up, so I thought...new address. I'd thought of taking the name of a Roman queen (I'd had this thought that I'd start with Dido and go up to Servia Tullia with email accounts), and then I changed my mind. So, while I am travelling, email toritravelling@yahoo.com, if you feel at all compelled to send me emails. And I will send postcards to people for whom I have addresses. _
