I had a horrible thought.  One day, there are going to be folk etymologies for lollygagging that involve lol. _

I like my President, and not simply because he mentioned my line of work. I feel all vaguely warm and patriotic.

I watched it on TV, and Biden has never looked more like Sam the Eagle.  He and Pelosi looked like a set of tragedy and comedy masks. _

Do I want to pay extra for electricity in order to get it from Maple Ridge Wind Farm?  I don't even know where I get my power from now...  Edit: Now I do, sort of. Presumably what they actually mean is that they'll buy an amount of electricity equal to what I use from the wind farm, not that I have to hope the wind is blowing off Lake Ontario when I want to vacuum. _

Now that I have committed to a particular house at a particular price and a particular mortgage at a particular rate, I have a desire to see house prices and rates go back up in the short term.  This is not because of any benefit I would get from this.  It is simply a desire to have been right to have done the savvy thing.  I'm fairly sure there is nothing admirable or useful about this emotion. Wanting to do the right thing, is one thing. Wanting what you did to be right, and shaping your perceptions and actions to make what you did have been right, that's an entirely different thing. _

ice and driftwood
Driftwood frozen in ice at the foot of Castle Hill at Crane Beach. The ice flows out from under the topsoil at the bottom of the hill, and forms tiny glaciers down to the high tide line. It's rather strange seeing ice that has no interest at all in being flat. _

I am a blackberry, in Michigan. Everyone seems to have one now. I feel they are the next evolution of the virtual pet. _

I feel that I need a project book. I am thinking that I want to read Decline and Fall on the Roman Empire. Am I mistaken? Anyone given it a try? I know practically nothing about the time period: Palmer-Colton spends maybe 50 pages on the middle ages, and Hobsbawm starts with the French Revolution. _

I think Larry Ellison has passed Paul Allen as my least favorite billionaire.  I'm fairly shallow, I think my main criteria is how often I hear about their conspicious consumption in the news.  IT billionaires seem particularly what's-the-word.  Oil barons and the Walton's don't seem to get into the competitive misallocation of capital game to nearly the same extent. _

Cinematic Titanic Live at the Somerville Theatre next weekend. I'm kind of torn. I really enjoyed MST3000 the handful of times I saw it. But, I don't know, there are so many good things I don't see, I'm not sure watching people heckle bad ones, however brilliantly, is a good use of $25 dollars. ($50 for the good seats... good seats?) _

I have become shockingly desensitized to wearing a lanyard aroud my neck with proximity cards and photo ID attached.

Also?  I still have and wear the shirt I wore on my first day of work, in late 2000.  it's getting a bit threadbare, though.  _

I can't articulate why, but I feel quite certain that this business of interest rate 'locks' is shady somehow.  Much of the process of buying a house, they try to make it feel like you've won something, when in fact, you've actually just bought it. _
