Tim's Bloglet

Recently, I've been asking a question I don't know the answer to. If you had to appoint the president of the United States, who would you choose. Most people have no idea. However, one person answered it on the volley, as though it were the most obvious thing in the world: Bruce Springsteen. So, who would you appoint? _

Shortening and simplifying the presidential application process would almost certainly improve the quality of applicant. _

So how do we get rid of the electoral college? Yes, my vote would still never be the deciding one. That's fine. What I object to is that if everyone within 400 miles of me registered and voted for Kerry, man, woman, child and household pet, it still wouldn't have changed anything. Also, maybe a nation campaign would actually be less insulting and childish, but at least it would be different. _

Local noon in Boston is at 11:27 Eastern Standard Time. That means we were closer to being right during daylight savings time. Sunset at 4:37 today. By rights, we should be in the next time zone. _

In a way, it's a good thing that work is my primary source of stress. Well, except for the whole having to go in order to have money thing. I suppose if being attacked by my pet chicken were my main source of stress, it would be easier to eliminate. (Not that I have a pet chicken, it was a hypothetical) (but I'd like one, a silkie. They're the sweetest tempered beasts imaginable.) _

My pine tree has been cut down. Office is much lighter, but south facing, so I'll have to lower the blinds more. More importantly, no more chickadees. Though, the view is kind of awfully pretty, with all the trees (I'm so ignorant... Cypress? Something with lots of little leaflets, anyway) all yellow and black, and the flag, mums and architecture. Though I think a black flagpole would be more elegant. _

Any Republicans out there? It would make me feel better if there were at least one. I suppose I mean Bush voter more than Republican, but either would do. If half of americans are voting for him, it would make me feel less... besieged? gerrymandered? a product of my environment? Less something, anyway, if I knew more of them. _

Last week, my computer contracted a large dose of spyware. Adaware and similar haven't cleaned off all the browser hijackers, so I've reluctantly switched to Firefox. I'm offended that this seems to be the only solution short of reinstalling the operating system, but there we are. I don't blame microsoft, particularly, though if they were on top of things they'd be putting out a free robust spyware remover. Mostly I blame humanity. _

John Peel, the legendary DJ whose noble, self-appointed mission of listening to scads of unbearable demo tapes while maintaining the ability to catch the gems has enriched all of your lives whether you know it or not, has died. I feel this is unfair on many levels. He should at least have died on air, as he often threatened to do. Meanwhile, the battle over his record collection has already started. _
