I'm glad I don't live in California, because I'd be sorely tempted to vote for Arianna Huffington, simply because she's one of the most amusing public figures we have. Does editing an entry update the sidebar? _

A piece of bread contains over a quarter million foot-pounds of work. Makes me feel inefficient, that does. _

I think part of the reason I feel I should apply for non-telecommuting jobs is guilt, and fear that the landlord will think I'm an unemployed layabout. Possibly also flourescent light withdrawal symptoms. _

The cat is extremely worried by the porch umbrella. It seems that he actually recognises it as the same sort of thing as our portable umbrellas, which terrify him because of their habit of becoming very large, very quickly and without warning. If he persistantly knocks at a door, we can hang an umbrella from the doorknob and he won't go near it. On the other hand, he as now come to terms with the swivel chair, and has declared it an auxilary scratching post. _

Sprint simply doesn't understand that the idea is not to irritate your customers. I may not have been so dead set on changing cell phone providers the day my contract expires if they would put that date on the bill, or on the website. But they don't. Nor do they put the price of cancelling early ($125). So I had to listen to some very poorly selected light jazz for 10 minutes in order to find out, simply so they could try to talk me out of leaving, by offering me free voice dialing. The very idea that people who grouse get cheaper service also drives me up the wall, mostly because my father does it simply to see what he'll get. I also don't like all the bits of paper they put in telling me how horrible and oppressive the federal government was by making them make cell phone numbers portable. If they tried making customers happy rather than trying to catch and trap them, they would be happy about this. Some poll showed that 16% of people would consider getting rid of their land line when they were able to keep the same number as a cell phone line. _

Bah. Now my photoshop elements free trial has expired, but I can't possibly spend anymore money today, having bought a spotting scope, tripod, patio table and umbrella. Tomorrow, perhaps. _

We got 2 two-dollar bills as change the other day. This made me happy, but unfortunately, there still doesn't seem to be any evidence that they're actually going to stop printing the 1 dollar bill and abolish the penny, as they should. _

I like the ocean, even if it is slowly sucking the moon out of its orbit. Went kayaking on a salt pond, with our inflatable kayaks. Saw 3 green herons, who sit on the edge of the water, on their knees (which bend the wrong way), leaning over the water, and then suddenly double in length and pick a fish out of the water which did not exist a moment before. The only fish I saw were being eaten by herons. Other birds seen: assorted sandpipers, (I refuse to sink to the level of trying to identify sandpipers, then I'd be a birdwatcher) a piping plover, an egret, and a few dozen laughing gulls sitting on a sandbar. They don't so much laugh at titter nervously. No pictures, because I thought there wouldn't be much to see, and didn't feel like messing around with ziplock bags. Next time, perhaps. _

Scaffolding is nearly miraculous. A truck can carry a nearly free standing 4 story structure which can be assembled in 10 hours, complete with staircase. Well, maybe it was several truck loads, I'm not sure. Still. They're painting the eves and fixing the roof. The cat is concerned. Large objects keep flying upwards past the window via pulley. _
