Our listing in the phone book. They wanted to charge for an unlisted number, but they let you choose how your name was displayed for free. No one has yet had the gumption to ask for Mr. or Mrs. Unlisted. _

Our first harvest of peas is ready. Fresh raw peas are a wonderful thing. They can also be used to demonstrate that a hex grid is the natural formation for spheres. _

For any other windows users out there: shift-F10 right-clicks on the selected item for you. I think this is the last piece I need to become mouse-free in my routine tasks. Which is good, because this little pointing knob (am I the only person in the world who likes these?) is starting to give me blisters. _

We have a pot, which was supposed to have grass in, but it didn't grow, so we've just been watering it without weeding. I believe this is an oak tree. _

After driving off a bluejay. You'd think lurking behind some potted heath would be ineffective, but he's had a good jump at some finches once or twice. Of course, I suspect them of tormenting him. _

I saw a car painted plain old brown, like the side of a shed. Why don't people paint other things with high-gloss finishes? I'd like a shiny forest green wall. _

That was just... neat. I decided on a whim to take I-93 through, or rather under, Boston today, just to see it. It's really something. I was expecting it to be a similar experience to the tunnels in Pennsylvania, but it was entirely different. For one thing, in the mountains you just drive around a bend and suddenly there is a tunnel. This, you seem like your driving directly downtown, with great views, and suddenly you go down a hill and the landscape doesn't. The tunnel itself is fairly curvy, and you can't see the traffic going the other way. The road signs are on the ceiling, which is unnerving, I had to try to concentrate on the lines, and not watch the ceiling. Well lit, with a bright orange light, presumably for night-time glare reasons. Underground exits, which make it feel like a subway tunnel. Then you come up out of the ground and immediately over this wierd, elegant bridge, which offers a great view of the old decrepit ugly bridge being dismantled. It is unlike any stretch of highway I have met before. _

Photoshop raises a whole new set of ethical dilemmas. I have done far too much to this photo; I got carried away. Also, I can't find ways to make it easily support my superstitious belief in small number ratios. However, bits of the interface are brilliant, and make me happy. So do fully functional 30 day free trials. _

This herring gull came and squawked at me a few times, and when I didn't respond properly, simply sat there with its beak ajar and its curiously yellow tongue sticking out. I think I was being threatened, since I was near some nesting birds, but I can't be sure. It's entirely possible that it was begging, possibly regressing to its chickhood. _

A black-backed gull at the northern end of Block Island. Here it was trying to eat a large crab, and not doing very well. These were out of focus yet very expressive, so I played around with them a bit. (It should be mentioned that all the pictures I take are tidied up with MGI PhotoSuite, which came with the camera but works well enough.) _
