That was not, in fact, completely random. Julia's mistaken reply about pretzels reminded me of the Pennsylvania Dutch. Lots of things remind me of the Pennsylvania Dutch. Barns which are not red and don't have hex signs piss me off. _

Apparently, today is Mardi Gras. Everyone must have known this except me. Having spent most of my life in Southeastern PA, around the Amish and Pennsylvania Dutch, I always crave Fauschnauts. (Not that I can spell it.) Not that I have ever in my life enjoyed a fauschnaut, but I always feel like I should have one. By the time you get as far west as Harrisburg, they try to tell you that regular donuts are fauschnauts, but they aren't. They're supposed to be breadier and doughier. _

I found out yesterday that my Netflix account is, in fact, ready to do the streaming thing. (I had to click on the "your account" setting to turn it on, so if you have a Netflix account and have been eagerly awaiting this option, it might be available to you.) And then I found out that you have to be running XP or Vista. And I was very very sad. I wrote to customer service to see if they are working on adapting it further so that people with, say, Macs, will be able to use it. _

It is at times like this, when my internet is going at a snails pace, like I'm downloading something but I'm not, that I remember why I was supposed to password protect our internet connection. _

Also, Brianne and I watched FAR TOO much Voyager yesterday. We moped about when we realized we'd finished Season 1, and that Martin still had our Season 2. So we burnt my divx files of Season 3 (cause my DVD player is totally awesome and will play divx files) and watched those, until Martin showed up with Season 2. At which point we just continued with Season 3, because...you know. Gina has no appreciation for our geekiness, and her tendency is to just come along and make fun of us while we're enjoying it. It's incredibly frustrating, actually. _

I spent yesterday mooning around on the internet trying to find the right black baby alpaca yarn for the next sweater that I'm going to make. Eventually I found one, which I have decided I will just make work with the pattern (I think the yarn is actually quite thicker than the pattern suggests, but the pattern suggests doubling it up, so if I don't double, it should be okay). I ordered enough of it that shipping was free, and I signed up with google check out and got $10 off. I generally don't trust a computer screen to tell me colors (I spent too much time trying to do color correction one summer, and the one time I tried ordering yarn online, I went with blue, and thought I was getting a nice dark rich sort of blue, and got bright bright bright), but it was black. And, in the end, quite a good price for alpaca. I'm excited. It should be here soon. _

So, at the end of my pottery class, the teacher asked if I thought I was up for making drinking vessels. I pouted about the thought of making handles. Told him I had done handles, and I hate handles. He laughed, and said that that's what well be doing next week. ((sigh)) _

There was something about the heaters in Pinkney my junior year that made them sound like someone was shovelling snow outside your window. At least it did to me and my nextdoor neighbour, who I finally asked about it after it had been going on for months. Now when I hear someone shovelling snow, I assume it is the heater. Which is, frankly, goofy. _

Sam was being very sweet and stuck to Brianne last night. She had broken her nose, and he was very happy to just lie in her lap and get petted. I got annoyed with him when I was going to bed and he wouldn't stay, so I put him in his bag, and he slept like a baby in his bag. _

The buses were running on such an odd not a schedule this morning that Dash sent employees out in cars to pick people up to take them to the metro stations so they wouldn't be standing in the cold for too long. _

Nate lent me Munich back when Katherine was visiting. I finally watched it this weekend. It was definately one of the best movies I've seen in ages. I'm not sure I have a whole lot to say about it coherently, but I thought it was pretty wonderful. It was so extremely intense that I found that I kept getting up to do things, like make dinner, or call Connor to find out if they kill them all (Connor didn't even know that it was about going after the terrorists). Eric Bana is amazing, and I want to see him get more roles. _

I feel sort of mopey. My sweater is truly finished, I have even sewed in the loose ends. I promised Lara I would make her one, and she has bought the yarn, but I want to do something else. I want to do cables. I want to do gorgeous braids, and ones that look like Celtic knots. I'm not quite sure I don't want to just make up a pattern. I haven't done that in ages. Not that I have yarn to do that with. Hmm. I get paid tomorrow. Perhaps I'll go to the yarn store after work and buy a bunch of yarn and make up a pattern for a sweater with all sorts of nifty cables. _

We closed early because of snow. Really because the Federal Government closed. We're not quite sure why the closed.oistIt snowed and is icy. The federal government (and therefore also my office, which is not part of the federal government, but we follow their weather closings) is on a two hour delay. Which means that I slept for an extra hour, or I would have if Brianne's work hadn't been so desperate to get her to go in early that they called her mom who called me. _

I placed an order with an online bead company. One set of two items didn't show up, and one thing was wrong. I called them on Tuesday, and the woman on the phone was completely sweet and fixed it so the stuff that was missing/wrong was resent. At the end, she apologized for keeping me on the phone so long. It was like exactly what you look for in phone customer service. _

Brianne picked up some silly trashy chick-lit thing that's a publisher's advance copy for me at Barnes and Nobles, cause she thought I would have fun with it. I am having fun with it, but it is so poorly edited. It's full of typos. I feel like I ought to attack it with a red pen and mail it back to the publisher or something. But that would be a lot of work for no reward, so... _
