I put on my winter coat this morning, which I haven't done since the well before the primaries (I think) and there was a Kerry button stuck to it. It made me sad. _

Did you know Ptolemy wrote about astrology? I just sat in a class where everytime the professor talked about stuff Ptolemy said it had to do with stuff like what house what planet was in, rather than the technical epicyclical equant laden stuff that was sophomore math. _

Molly and I took the dogs for a walk just now and when we came home there was a movie from Netflix in the mailbox. This was odd cause we'd already gotten today's mail. _

Not having a car of my own while living in the city is not improving my parallell parking skills. However, this afternoon when I got back from grocery shopping, I had the lovely experience of parellell parking perfectly, like they teach you to do it in drivers' ed. I was very very proud of myself. _

I'm going to go to see Dr. Faustus. I was walking my dogs and ran into a girl in my program who said, hey, there's a free play tonight, come see. And so I'm going to go see. _

Today will be self improvement day. I will grocery shop and do laundry and take a nice long shower and clean the kitchen and bathrooms and wash clothes. Yes I will. Fucking dogs wake you up first thing in the morning cause they have to pee, and they won't just pee in the grass right outside the apartment, oh no, they need to walk at least around the block, which means that I need to put on real pants, rather than the yoga pants I've been sleeping in. And then once you have pants on and you've taken the dogs for a walk, it feels like the day has begun.

And I will read the letter Petrach wrote "to Cicero" even though Cicero was dead. _

We had a mouse get it's tail only caught in a trap. We have these black plastic traps that look sort of like clothes pins. In the time it took me to work up the never to do anything about it (I think I had eventually decided to try flushing it down the toilet or drop it out a window) it managed to wrench itself out of the trap. I hate mice. I hate hate hate mice. I stood in the kitchen and bawled about the mouse, though, for a while before I worked up the courage to do anything about it. Our landlord called the exterminator last week, and they haven't showed up yet. I want them to fucking show up already. The mice are making me nuts. You aren't supposed to have mice in your house, and you're definately not supposed to see them in the middle of the afternoon running around your living room. I called the landlord again today to see what's up with the exterminator, and he said he'd call them again. _

Makes you almost wish we were some South American country and there were some US to come along and say "no, you elected badly, we will kill the regime you put in place and give you a new one" doesn't it? _

The Kerry-Edwards signs are disappearing around Philadelphia. They were on every post, every street lamp, and now they are gone. There are still a few signs in the small yards people have, or the one that we havne't removed from our window. I am distressed and don't know what to do, here. I should look at grad schools in other countries, is what I'm thinking. _

Four years ago, there was the whole popular vote vs. electoral college debate. There was the recount in Florida. The election was a scandal, and we could all be properly motivated to vote for the Democrat in four years, to be irate at Bush, to do our thing to help the Democrat, the left could be united. And now we have seen that we have failed. Apparently we weren't united, or at least we weren't united enough. What happened to the tons of new registrations? They were saying on NBC that 60% of the population turned out to vote, and yet the states went exactly the same way as they did last time. That is why this is discouraging, and we all want to leave. We tried to stay to fight, and now we see the reward of our efforts. At what point do you wash your hands of it? (Or at what point do you dispense with the middle of the country? I don't really know what we should do with them, but I wish we could pick them up and put them somewhere else.) _

On the plus side, there's only four more years of this. On the negative side, the entire world will hate us, who knows what's going to happen to the Supreme Court and Gay Marriage and who knows what else, and let us all be protected from California's governer. _

It feels like a big party in Philadelphia. Philadelphia is largely democratic, so there are Kerry signs and so forth everywhere. There was a plane flying about with a banner that read "VOTE" trailing behind. I didn't even know they did that anymore.

I got a letter from Katherine today, and it made me so excited I nearly skipped to class. _
