Tori's Bloglet

I seem to find out about deaths of artists from people's blogs. I found out about Douglas Adams by reading Kerne's blog, and about Elliot Smith from Nate's. _

I tried to figure out how Tracy had made the saddle shaped oragami thing tonight while I was doing nothing of any real interest at work, and failed miserably. And, in case anyone was ever wondering, making oragami anything with post it notes is not easy. _

There was a guy at work tonight with a large button with a picture of a piece of paper with "Bill of Rights" written big on top, and then in red it said "Void where prohibited by law." I thought it was funny. _

One of my dogs who are never seperated went to the groomer today. The other did not. She is very stressed out. _

So, I was sitting her, happily reading Neil Gaiman's blog, and saw readings and signings in Oxford and Bath, and sort of whimpered. I want to be in Oxford and/or Bath again (or London, which really isn't that far away from Oxford) and go see him do a reading/signing thing. _

As Marija and I left HACC today, her tape flipped from the nice music to the rap that drives me nuts, and some of it was German rap. I found the German rap rather amusing, because, speaking no German, it made about as much sense to me as, say, the Matthew Passion, and it even had some of the same words. _

Paper clay was interesting, but I want to throw it, instead of handbuilding it, which was really boring and annoying. _

Sean Astin's short movie in the bonus features of The Two Towers was a bit cute, but what was even cuter was the making of his movie that they had afterwards. _

I drove my stepdad's Mini today for the first time. Getting to work, I couldn't figure out how to move the seat forward, which made it difficult to drive. I tried to figure out how to turn the lights on on my way there, because it was still light out, and I figured I would need to know when I was coming home. I couldn't figure it out, and meant to call my stepdad while there were two of us working, but I forgot until I was about to leave, and so I called home at midnight, and he told me how to turn the lights on and how to move the seat forward. And so I got home safe and sound, with lights, and a seat close enough to the pedals to make a Tori happy. I had to get gas, cause the gas light was on, so I got a bit of gas for his car. _

I have no time tomorrow. I'm not entirely sure where it went. I'm fretting because I was unable to throw a 6x8 cylinder (I think I flopped 30 pounds yesterday in my attempts), and I was supposed to be able to show my instructor one that I'd done by tomorrow. I signed up to do a workshop with paper-clay, and I'm starting to wish I hadn't, as at some point tomorrow Tesia and I are going to cut out the pattern I got for my Ren Faire dress. And then in the evening there's an open house at The Circle School, which I said I'd go to. And at some point, I'm supposed to clean out the hottub, and then refill it, and my grandparents are coming tomorrow, so it should be hot, which means it will take even longer, cause I think it holds 100 gallons of water, and our hot water tank holds 40. And before Sunday, I need to locate a working sewing machine and make the dress. And I have to take the dog to the groomer, and get yarn to make a birthday present for one of my co-workers, (fortunately her birthday is next week.) And Marija and I were going to go to this health food store on Thursday, and I need thread for the dress, because I forgot to get that when I got everything else. And I'm exhausted, so I'm going to go to bed. _

It was general impatience that led me to check The Two Towers out of the video store; I think I checked it out largely to see the special features and was drawn even further to see the extra long trailer it has for Return of the King. I watched most of the special features this afternoon. And you know that stupid bit with Aragorn in the river? Apparently Viggo got pulled down by the current, and thought he was going to die cause he had a hard time getting back out. Which leads me to the "Jesus, they made up this bit, and nearly killed their actor, and it was stupid." _

The question really is not how much basic ballpoint pen ink is actually used, but what happens to the pens that are lost. I'm inclined to guess that they aren't mostly thrown away, and that they must therefore wind up being used by someone else. I never throw away pens unless they leak or are dry, and unless things accidentally fall into trashcans like silverware at a restaurant, the pens are in fact used. But by who? (Now I feel like that guy in the Hitchhiker's Guide who thought all the pens wound up on a planet somewhere, and then claimed to have visited it.) _
