On close examination of Christina's letter from the Dean telling her that she will graduate, we decided that the Dean really did sign the letter. With a fountain pen, no less. _

I was all impressed at the dinner at the president's house that the tables were properly set. I haven't seen a properly set table in ages, at least that my dad hadn't set, or had one of us set. I was beginning to think that maybe he'd made it up. _

Apparently, Middies are taught how late you are supposed to be to an event, as well has things like how to properly set a table and dance and a handful of other things. You are, apparently, supposed to show up around 20 minutes late to a dinner party, and 5 to 10 minutes late to a cocktail party. Presumably, so this is so your host has a bit of extra time to set everything up. _

The nurse gave me eyedrops, a generic version of visine. Funny, I have no problems sticking my fingers in my eyes to pull out goop (sorry), but I jump, and wind up with drops on my eyelashes when I try to put those in my eyes. _

The discussion of "Jabberwocky" wasn't too terrible, after all. We talked a good deal about nonesense; about a perfectly balanced mind, because I read part of Carroll's introduction to "The Hunting of the Snark". One girl wanted to make it deep, and give it a lot of meaning, but we kept ignoring her. _

We had this dreadful math class, and to top it all off, in order to balance out the ac turned way to high, the windows were open, and pollen was filling the room. I sat there, convinced I could feel thousands of pollen bits hitting my eyes. _

I want pretty smelling potted plants. Katherine's gardenia was simply lovely, and I think I want a jasmine plant. _

Dear god, the weather seems particularly to dislike school events, such as Prank, Croquet and Reality (which this year is occasionally calling itself "Realitas" because their theme is Ancient Rome; they made some announcement, talking about their wonderful "traditional Roman food" and I said I might kill them if hey try to feed me peacock feet.). _

There is this girl who is singing second soprano in the one split soprano song we are singing in chorus who always insists on everyone holding their vibrato. And then she sings with so much vibrato she is quite audibly changing far more of a pitch than you are ever supposed to. Funnily, though, she only does it when she's singing the second soprano part, and also only when it's in those bits where their voice have crossed over ours. I think she is compensating for the fact that she is not singing first. It was funny, thoug, today, cause there's this bit we sing, then they echo, and (to me) it sounded like the firsts were singing just notes, like they were nothing, and whatnot, and the seconds were like "look at us! We are singing a g! listen to us!!!" And, frankly, I thought we sounded better. _

I think I don't particularly care for Angel. Or the way Buffy seems to be going. I liked the episodes with Faith (in early Angel) and I have completely decided that she is welcome to Spike. I want to curl up and watch Third Season Buffy, though. _

Mr. Kalkavage is having the Chorus sing "Sicut Cervus" as a singalong with everyone at Collegium, so we sang over it a few times this evening. We are going to read the first Parts of Animals reading from Freshman lab for Friday (cause Mr. Maistrellis decided that the rest of the manual is too technical to do in one day). I feel almost like a Freshman. It's nostalgiac and weird. (Does nostalgiac have any synonyms that don't translate to "return of great pains"?) _

My grandmother called this morning, at 9 (whch she still hasn't learned is a bad time to call me. If I'm up, I'm running late for class, otherwise I'm asleep). I was unnecessarily snappy at her, mostly because I'd just woken up, and she takes forever to ask a single question over the phone, constantly tripping over her words. And she was only calling to find out what I want as a graduation present, which really is a nice reason to call someone. (I am ridiculously paranoid that my quiet-to-nearly-silent manner in Seminar is going to make it so I don't get to graduate, as well, although I understand they made the decisions.) I just haven't a clue what I want as a present, which I told her, so then she asked if she could call back around dinner time, and I said I probably wouldn't be in. Then I went back to sleep some more. _

After the games on Sunday, Aidan and I were sitting on the table we weren't supposed to have as we tried to figure out what to do with it. This middie came up and started talking to us about how we'd won. He wasn't in uniform, and was extremely drunk, and seemed like a nice guy. He kept saying how good we are at what we do, and how everyone has so much fun at Croquet, and even they think it's great how we beat them so thoroughly. (They did win one game.) He was going on and on in this vein, and then started talking about how different the school's are, but they really appreciate that we're thre, because some day, we will be their bosses. Because we are the ones who will sit around and create the policies which they will carry out, and he thought this was great. I thought it was adorable that he was talking like this. _
