I wonder if doing well at math is at all a genetic thing. Until I came to St. John's, I never liked math, but except for making stupid arithmatical errors, I ususally get it really quickly, and both my parents are good at math, my dad's dad was some sort of engineer, my dad, grandfather(dad's dad) and one uncle (mom's uncle) went to MIT. My brother and sister are both good at math, but they don't go around trying to be language people. I actually did a test once that was meant to tell you what your intelligence was in, and I came out way way high in music, and then came out about the same in language and math, and that was pretty high as well. _

That I always test better in math than verbal trips me up. I wonder if I'm interested in the wrong sorts of things. _

There is construction somewhere near by, and so our water is turned off. There have been notes hanging up on campus since about Friday, telling us that the water will be off this morning. I completely forgot. Woke up, went to the bathroom to brush my teeth, and the water didn't turn on. So I used a small bottle of water, one of the teeny-tiny ones they give you on the sail picnic, of which I seemed to somehow come home with six, and I've been refilling the empty ones, with which I brushed my teeth. (Oh, dear, that looks a little Ciceronian.) It was an interesting experience. I now know that I use about four ounces of water to brush my teeth, but more probably gets wasted, due to letting the water run. Washing the toothbrush after I was finished was an interesting experience. _

Douglas Adams deliberatly wrote an ending to the Hitchhikers' Guide when it was a radio show that left Ford and Arthur on prehistoric Earth, and thought, ah-ha, closure, it's over. The BBC decided they wanted a second season, or whatever it was, and could he please pick it back up where he'd left off. So he figured out how to get them off of Earth (which is entirely different from the book). It was actually at this point that the major differences between the book and the radio show picked up; other than that it had been rather minor differences. When the second series was coming to an end, he deliberately left it rather wide open, so that when he was again asked to write more of the series, he wouldn't have to get his characters out of their ending. They didn't. Many years later, someone asked for at least one more Hitchhikers' rdaio show, and Douglas Adams didn't want to do it, so he asked Neil Gaiman, who I believe said something like "monthly comic book." And so it never happened. _

Hey, everyone should go in the new addition beyond the Pendulum Pit. There's elegance in Mellon. It's modern elegance, but it's there. _

I think my seminar has turned into a rather casual seminar. First the Matrix and Gladiator (both of which made some sense) and then tonight Die Hard II. _

As I walked to my nine o'clock lab this morning, I was walking along thinking about what a beautiful day it was. And then I saw the flag outside Pinkney, and it was flying half mast, and this really distressed me, cause I couldn't figure out why it was flying at half mast. And then I remembered, and I felt foolish. _

Are my bedrooms on campus generally more echo-y than most other bedrooms cause they don't have carpet on the floor? I've hung fabric on my walls every year not only cause it's pretty, but also cause it absorbs sound. _

When I got back from Christina's potluck on Friday there was a note on the board telling me to call Thomas at IT. I had gone down there shortly before I headed out to shop and then go to the potluck cause someone was on my IP address, or so my computer told me, and so I figured I should tell them. So I called them back this morning, cause it was late on Friday when I got back, and Thomas wasn't in yet, but Dave said he'd probalby be back in a few minutes, and he'd call me back. So I've been sitting here waiting for like 20 minutes, and I just want to take a shower. _

I have recently been informed twice that I have "too much range" (in reference to singing). As I'm fairly sure I can't drop my voice low enough to sing those notes that sound so cool when basses hit them, I want to just drop the bottom few notes and stick them to the top. Cause then I could sing the Queen of the Night, and that would make me extremely happy. _

I woke up this morning and I think I sat at my computer for five minutes, checking my email and reading comics, before I realized that I'd been sitting there scratching the back of my throat the whole time. The zyrtec I then swallowed seems to be helping, but I don't know if it will still help when I'm at Christina's for dinner this evening. _
