In a show of rare intelligence, they have hired Dave Prosper to do a computer help desk and do stuff with the computer lab and various other things. The other people at the help desk seem nice and willing to help people with their problems. I spent an extremely long chunk of time down there this afternoon, because for whatever reason, my computer decided that it won't talk to their DHCP server, and they were trying to make it. In the end they gave up. _

This morning I had a fight with my computer which ended up with a call to Earthlink's tech support where I spent most of my time on hold, and they gave me a new number to call, and it all worked out fine. Then I called the doctors' office with whom I'd accidentally made an appointment for the Monday before long weekend to try to reschedule, and wound up with an appointment sometime in December, and I spent most of the time on hold with them too. I'm going to go eat some leftover white chocolate mousse cake as my breakfast now. _

My little brother and I are going to test drive a Kia cause if you do they'll give you a certificate, and then you make a phone call and read off some numbers, and give them a name and address, and they will send you a free copy of the Lord of the Rings on video or DVD. _

So, last night my sister and I went over to our friend dee's house to start watching Pride and Prejiduce. We really weren't going to watch the whole thing; we were going to stop after the second tape, and then we said, okay, well, we'll watch the third tape, and then after you immediately must watch the remaining three tapes. We felt very foolish. And we, or at least I, because I was supposed to be at work at 9, are very very tired. _

Circuit City is doing a special thing on CD donuts by Fugi (I think) where after you buy a wheel of 50, you send in a rebate and get back $23 of your $25. _

I picked up Mother Tongue, English and How it Got That Way while I was at my stepdad's mother's house on Sunday for a clam bake (which was held inside, cause she though it was too hot out). It's a cool book. I didn't really get into anything about English for a whlie, but I really enjoyed reading about the supposed history of language. _

Last night I patched up my favourite pair of jeans (that might soon be more patch than jean). They've been sitting in a mending pile for quite a while; beginning of sophomore year or end of freshman year, and I didn't think to try them on before I spent an hour sewing on patches. I have gained weight since I last wore the pants, and so they no longer fit. And this makes me incredibly sad. _

All right, peoples, tell me if this makes sense. "This case is concerned with the responsibility for a future life which is connected with the active individual by no conscious thread of continuity, while for the Puritan it was (in Latin tua res agitur) your affair is in dispute/at stake. ... The electi are, on account of their election, proof against fatalism because in thier rejection of it thye prove themseleves (in Latin quos ipsa electio sollicitios reddit et diligentes officiorum) who, disturbed (in that movement sense of disturbed) and attentive of duty, the choice itself restores."

Okay, I don't think it makes sense, someone help me please. _

My dad's uncle Jack sent me a bit of Latin to translate. It sat in my room for a week or two while I did nothing with it. It's Latin in the midst of English as quotes in a footnote. The Latin isn't particularly challenging, it's just a matter of figuring out which particular use of the word "ago" I want to use. It's not usually that hard, but I don't know anything about Puritans or fatalism, and so I can't figure it out from context. And my Latin is sketchy, since I stopped taking it December when I was 16, and I'm nearly 22. I think I need to work on my Latin a bit, cause I want to study Classics next year, and I've forgotten so much. I wonder what the best way is to get my Latin to be a bit better. _

Oh, yes, though, but flipping briefly through the academic calendar is scary, cause it says when our essays are due. Is it a terribly bad thing that it is mid August and I don't know what I want to write about yet? _
