I didn't want to go to NJ in the first place when my brother first mentioned it; and now Zeb and Helen are going to be in Lewisberry; and our D&D party just walked back into the riot we accidently set off and we usually play on Sundays and...Stupid Connor. I think it would be nice to be a big happy family with far too many people again, and all us kids got him a present together, it would be cool if we could all give it to him at the same time. Maybe I won't go to NJ, and he can go with Jamie by himself. _

When I woke this morning, I looked down and there was my African violet on the ground, not in the pot. The dirt was all still together. I have this vague memory of hearing something thud in the night. It looks like it's all right though. _

After sitting there wondering why my monitor wasn't going to sleep, I remember suddenly that when I was attempting to reinstall Civ at some poitn during the day I told it not to turn the display off after the five minutes that I usually have it set to, so that I could tell when it crashed. Not that it helped, but I could tell when it crashed. _

I have watched Dr. Who for three weeks in a row now, and two of the weeks had story arcs featuring large bugs. I was utterly convinced last night that we had reached parts of Dr. Who where Douglas Adams had begun to work with them, cause there were people cryogenically frozen in an "arc" to preserve humanity from solar flares or something that were going to destroy the planet. But he wasn't, I later found out, he first joined for "The Pirate Planet," which was part of the Key to Time (I think) and utterly delightful. _

Maybe if I hit my machine and cry the game will start working. But probably not. Blasted purple computer. Earlier today it told me that it was quarter to two, but it was really quarter to one. It confused me incredibly, especially since my watch was right, but my alarm clock was an hour slow. Then it changed itself back to normal when I went nextdoor to ask Erik Thompson what time it was for real. Rrr. I just want to play my game. _

I got wonton soup this evening with wontons that were filled with vegetables instead of pork or whatever it is that they usually fill them with in a broth that everyone else assured me had no chicken in it. I found this totally delightful, as I haven't eaten anything remotely like wonton soup in years. Six or seven, at least, as far as I can estimate. And vegetarian Spring rolls. I was all excited about this and how yummy the food was, and I was telling Jenna all about how excited I was and how they never have things like that at Chinese restaurants. She told me I had to go to Berkely, to this restaurant she and her friends accidently walked into and ordered things with pork and chicken without realizing that they were "pork" and "chicken" that were actually made of vegetables. _

Oh, yes, and Hiram has asked that the next time we do a Johnny chat, if he is online we invite him. He was amazed that such a thing was possible. He's just never on AIM. _

Bridgie is awesome. She is going to lend me Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, and maybe Skinny Legs and All, depending on my mood and whether or not I feel like waiting til I get home to reread it. After seminar on Monday I am lending her Still Life With Woodpecker, but not before, cause she has this essay to write. And she likes Hush by Bobby McFerrin and Yo Yo Ma, and that's just a very cool fun album. _

I like the randomness of my bookshelf. I like seeing Another Roadside Attraction stuck in between Kant and Rousseau, or my Edward Eager books stuck in between Middlemarch and Hobbes. _

Once, as a freshman, I thought it was very cool that the juniors and seniors had lots of notes on the seminar list about their readings. Now that I'm a junior, I think it's a pain. _

Someone left a note on my door asking me if I had a translation of Phedre with Racine's introduction. And I have no idea who left this note. If my translation of Phedre didn't have Racine's introduction, I wouldn't be upset, but it does. And I have no idea who it is who wants to look at my book. _

As it looked like a storm was in the process of blowing in during my language class, I remembered suddenly the last summer before freshman year. It had nearly never rained all summer, and it was August. I had recently gone off and bought Chapman's Iliad, cause it's so very very pretty, and was thinking that maybe I'd read that instead of Fagles for seminars, and I realized the names were Roman, and that really annoys me, and so I didn't know whether or not I was going to keep it. I was working a double, or something, and was supposed to not work for like an hour, so I thought I'd take it to work, and in that hour eat a sandwich and read the very pretty Iliad. (It really is a very pretty translation.) Anyway, that never happened. Someone didn't come in, or something, and I worked like nine hours straight, as tended to happen. At some point in the evening, a storm hit. It poured. It was lovely and beautiful. And I'd left the book sittingo n the passanger's seat, with the skylight still open. My parents weren't thrilled when I brought home a soaked car, and I wasn't thrilled cause I hadn't been sure I wanted to keep the book as it was. I did wind up reading Fagles for seminar, but I still do have the book. _
