--Too Early to Plan--

Yay going to hear St. John Passion at the BSO Saturday!

Cycling to work, I saw a flag out of the corner of my eye, that I thought was at half mast, and I thought, I wonder why?  Jesus? No, he isn't dead for another few days.

I don't do my clearest thinking in the morning. _

I just followed a link and ended up at... Obsidian Wings.  It still exists!  It's bizarre, somehow, that it's still there, with the same kitten and banner, but no Hilzoy, Von or Publius.  Eric Martin is still there, but I never read his posts anyway.  Basically it was alway Hilzoy and stuff-that-wasn't-Hilzoy, of varying degrees of annoyingness.  Now it's all not-Hilzoy.  I think my confusion stems from thinking that my reason-for-reading was the same as it's reason-for-existing, but now I find that wasn't the case at all.

Anyone still read?  Any of the new bloggers good? _

You know, I was fully prepared to be pro-umbrella in this case.  From the first reports I thought it might have been a prank call.  Then l I saw the pictures.  Of course, you can buy it at thinkgeek.  While it's still true that people need to calm down, making umbrellas that look like weapons is poor design.  No no, it's not supposed to look like a rifle, it's supposed to look like a much older device for killing people, it doesn't really hold up.

Update: apparently this was a known issue. _

The local go club has given up on making the rent, and moved out of the basement, which means maybe I'll take up Go again.  I much prefer playing over the board, but I really didn't like that basement.  They're abandoning the walk-in club model, which has been a myth for years, and obsolete since the internet, for a temporary space for weekly meetings, hopefully above ground. _

legible
Sigh. This is what I get if I go all legibility minded. Trouble is if I do this, and use the colors to give it away, it would no longer read the same from either side. If I do go this path, there's a lot of lines in there I want to clean up and simplify. Thinking the center would be a bezel, and the background a textured clear glass. Also, I made one 4 corners-spot, and it would be much, much easier to make if I can get rid of that. _

Back from our week at the Cape, we took a cottage on the oceanside in Wellfleet.  The ocean is still there, only with more loons than I'm used to seeing.  Rex Stout is quite good.  I spent rather a lot of time throwing driftwood into the sea and watching it until it got deposited back at my feet, which is actually really fascinating, and you learn all sorts of things about sandbars and rip currents.  There was one spot, where the beach was gravelly rather than sandy, where the stick just got taken straight out, well past the breakers, I went back at low tide and there was a large pool there, with a deep channel, maybe about 4 feet wide in the sandbar.  Perhaps the most fascinating thing, if not surprising exactly,  was that whenever I got it out past the breakers, when it came back to me, if I turned around, there was a lot of driftwood up on the beach.

I've just recieved an RIAA cease and desist letter via Verizon.  I have no idea what triggered it.  Apparently someone detected Black Swan being shared from our IP address on 2/24.  I wouldn't watch Black Swan if you paid me, and we're both absurdly law-abiding.  Investigations have been initiated.

Will anyone else be playing the new Pokemon Black/White?  And yes, I realize I was too old for Pokemon 10 years ago when I first played it.  I refuse to feel apologetic, it is one of the canonical Great Games, and if you've never tried it, you're missing out.  (If you have tried it, this is more or less exactly the same, slightly shinier, all new pokemon, and more functional online stuff.)
