Corporate policy believes there are no safe hotels between downtown Baltimore and Owings Mills.  I still have difficulty believing it's that bad.  Though, the one time I ignored this policy, I ended up in a hotel with bullet proof glass at reception, with one floor being used as a homeless shelter.  So this time, Owings Mills it is.   _

After listening to most of the WBUR debate this morning, the only thing I'm sure about is that I'm not voting for Tim Cahill, he gave me absolutely no reason to: the least honest about taxes, unabashedly pro-gambling, and generally ill-informed.  Charlie Baker impressed me on healthcare: Price transparency!  oh yes please!  He knew more about all of the issues than I did, which is the first thing I want in a politician, and threw in a lot of good-government dog whistles under all the mandatory tax cutting stuff.  The Green-Rainbow candidate seems like a possible place to throw my anti-Patrick vote if research shows Baker to be an actual Republican in any way that would matter, but she seemed weirdly opposed to structural reforms.  I want my Green party candidates to be goo-goo bomb throwers like Nader, not ultra-orthodox lefties.  Patrick continues to irritate me to such a degree that I may just decide it's irrational and vote for him anyway, his record certainly isn't awful.     _

indecisive beaver
I'd say this proves that beavers really aren't all that clever, except I do this all the time at work. Okay, not exactly this. The equivalent. _

underwater leaf with needles
A submerged maple leaf, as seen from below, and reflected in the surface of the water, along with the bank above. The pine needles were floating on the surface, the leaf was tumbling along just beneath. I took a lot of these fish-view photos, with absolutely no idea how the angles and reflections work. Most didn't work at all, and it was far, far too cold for me to jump in so I could see the viewfinder. _

back from camping!  Lots of non-kitten pictures forthcoming.  The cat is fairly distraught: we went straight from a business/family trip to Ann Arbor (wherein I go to work at the main office, and Erika hangs out with her family)  to camping at Tully Lake in Massachusetts, a manmade lake behind a flood control dam built in 1948.   Nothing on it except a 30 site tent-only campground, the dam and a disc golf course maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers.  The parking lot is by the office, all the sites are walk-in only, with wheelbarrows provided.    Apparently terrible fishing, so even though 10hp motors are legal, didn't see a single one.

Back to work tomorrow, but at least I'm not behind on anything anymore.   _

At the main office this week, which, since it's a rare event, involves meeting people I've spoken to many times but never seen.  I'm used at this point to having my mental picture of a person be entirely wrong.  I expect it.  So it was rather unnerving when I got one almost exactly right.  I was off by about 3 inches, and missed the hair color, but the face, hairstyle and manner I basically had pegged.   _
