J'accuse isn't just fun to say, it's an actual historical thingummy.   _

I very much appreciate that it is quite easy to watch the Wire unspoiled, even 8 years late.  I also find it sorely tempting to make it harder. _

Listening to Jimmie Rodgers.  As far as misogynistic swaggering homicidal posturing goes, it's excellent.  It makes me curious if there are other parallels between hobo and gangsta culture.   _

My twitchy eye hurts!  I'm less taken with it now.  I blame the loose talk of daily status meetings on the weekend.

Seems to have got over it.  Back to twitching.  Yet another example of the healing properties of whining. _

Saletan gives Glenn Beck his due. I am rather pleased than otherwise when political Christianity embraces MLK. _

Every time I come across this picture, it makes me happy.   I think it's that he's just so recognizably a mechanic.   _

Woo!  Income!  I knew there was some reason I went to work...  It's fine taken in smallish chunks.  The problem comes when you look up and seeing stretching away to the horizon. _

Today we took public transportation to an island.  It'll be an absolutely spectacular park in 30 years, but at the moment, it still feels rather like a landscaped dump.  One, however, with glorious views of the harbor and the shipping channel.  _

The world is an odd place.  There are people who grow birdseed as a cash crop.  I imagine they have to keep the birds away from it. Then they harvest it, package it, send it to market, where people buy it and give it to the birds.  The whole system is a sort of bird displacement program.  It's always bothered me a little that there are so many more birds around neighborhoods and fields than there are in the woods.  It seems backwards.  Of course, there's nothing much to eat in the woods.  The idea that there's this thing called Nature, hanging on to little wooded parcels and inconvenient bits of topography we've left scattered in the gaps in our infrastructure is really an absurd way of looking at it.  _

There was a time when I would have felt guilty for slinking in at 9:15.  Today I'm practically proud of myself for getting close.  It was depressing, though, seeing how stuff had changed along my bike commute, though.   I was somewhat shocked they managed to redo the thorndike field parking lot while I was out.  One doesn't like to think that one is operating on the same timescale as infrastructure projects. _
