It's interesting to note that the pigs were wrong.

The previous sentence was cached on my add page.  I have absolutely no idea what I meant by it.   I have no recollection of writing it. _

Covet.  I want to need a second vehicle so I could justify this. And there's a plug-in hybrid version coming out! I have never been so seriously tempted by a scooter. _

If you websurf and you don't read Ta-Nehisi Coates, you're doing it wrong.  He's had a disturbingly large impact on my recreation time this year, between Warcraft and the Civil War.

I believe in the importance of having a written national constitution.  And this is why I have much more respect for William Garrison burning the constitution in 1844 as a covenent with death than for the Radical Republicans claiming that Article 4 clause 1, "The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government", should be read to prohibit slavery and require universal male suffrage.   Too much of our reverence for the constitution, throughout history, is actually contempt for it, an attempt to conjure legal authority out of thin air to bypass our democracy.  Sometimes for good, sometimes for ill, but either way, doing so undermined the notion of a country whose government whose workings are described and constrained by a written code of law, which is an essential protection from tyranny. _

How on earth did my public education make the history of the United States so boring?  Did other people find it so, or was this a manifestation of my irrational childhood hatred of America? _

Haley's comet probably wasn't excommunicated after all.  That's rather disappointing.  (I got there from a Lincoln quote about why he didn't want to make an emancipation proclamation "that the whole world will necessarily see must be inoperative, like the Pope's bull against the comet!". A good example of ancient urban legends.
