SME in my current workplace refers to a Subject Matter Expert.  Not Sausage McMuffin with Egg, as it did in my first workplace.  This leads to disappointment when people say things like "I want you all to know where the SMEs are."   _

Also, route 2 westbound is underwater just before lake street.  Traffic is still getting through, but it's slow, one lane, and involves driving through a seriously deep puddle. _

Don't forget your Making Work Pay tax credit. I missed it completely, because the line on the form just says "Making work pay and government retiree credits. Attach Schedule M." Which sounded like some sort of welfare-to-work program. Of course, if you do miss it, it turns out the IRS sends you a nice little note saying you screwed up and they're going to give you your $400 per worker anyway. Which just further demonstrates that they didn't need me to fill out the form in the first place. Which brings us around to the Wyden-Gregg tax reform bill, which appears to be a good sort of bill. It doesn't actually abolish some of the dafter itemized deductions, but by tripling the standard deduction, it effectively decreases them dramatically: we've got a somewhat gigantic mortgage, and even we would be better off taking the standard deduction if they tripled it. But most importantly, they'd send you the form already filled out. _

My normal route to work.  Hope you're wearing good boots, Moss. (update: this isn't a permalink- as they add new photos, they add them to the beginning, so they all gen renumbered) _

Alewife brook river gauge. 7 feet deep, and moving more than 20x the normal amount of water.  Sewer-contaminated as well, because Cambridge still doesn't have fully separated sewer and storm drains.  Still raining.   _

Today I am glad I looked at FEMA flood maps before buying a house.  The neighborhood I was originally thinking about is apparently full of rapidly filling basements.  _

I'm not sure staying at work is sensible when two of the 3 roads leading to the office are underwater and the other one is well puddled. The storm drains don't lead anywhere right now, and it's still raining. _

Here's a list of street closings.

This one is particularly crazy, if you know the area:
all lanes of Alewife Brook Parkway between Massachusetts Avenue and Route 2 on the Cambridge/Arlington line due to flooding. That section of the road will remain closed until further notice.  I think I need to take a walk at lunchtime to see this in person. _

The off-ramp from Route 2 to Alewife is flooded out, which made the drive in rather slow.   Also, there was a swan, walking along route 2 opposite the station in the left lane.   When I opened the garage door this morning, water ran out.  Water is seeping into the basement in 4 or 5 places, running across the floor, nimbly skirting the opening to the sump pump, and then out the garage door. Most recent rainfall totals say 7 inches since Friday night. Wind blowing straight off the ocean. _

Catfood for people!

It's like pork pie in a handy spreadable form.
