Oh, and I dropped the camera in the salt marsh. I baked it to dry it out, which got it working, but the lens was locked up, probably salt, I thought. So, um, I rinsed it and baked it again, and that was a bad idea. _

Back from cape cod.  Saw Whimbrels, all 3 heron species, lots and lots of seals, including a hundred or so pulled out on a sandbar at low tide, and more fiddler crabs than seems proper.  We were in Truro, and it's absolutely the best place to go cycling I've ever been.  I also took the kayak out onto the bay, which was exciting.    Was too cowardly to try sailing, though, I need more practice on windy days on the pond first.   _

Grar.  So decided to try cycling to Badminton, after cycling to work, as my first night ride of the season, as well as the first night of badminton.  Worked really well but during my 4th game, I tweaked my knee.  I can walk and cycle normally, but it gets upset if I run, and badminton requires a vast amount of lunging around, so I gave up and went home.  I am disappointed.  I suppose I should ice the damned thing, but I don't like giving it the satisfaction. _

A sentence that amuses me: "Under the "Oregon Rule" the burden of proof is on the moving vessel to prove that the allision was the stationary object's fault." Seems reasonable. _

In local food news: H-Mart to open September 25th.   Too late for the Labor Day BBQ sales event. (warning: disturbing imagery) _

Pointless grumble of the day:  'Overwhelmingly' to mean 'mostly'.  For instance, "About 900 overwhelmingly white and skeptical people showed up."   "About 900 people showed up, an overwhelming majority of them white and skeptical" would be fine.  But unless they're incandescant, they aren't overwhelmingly white.   _

A review of Martha Coakley's career.  I am somewhat prepared to like Coakley.  She gets all kinds of points for being willing to run against the Kennedy family, and not being cowed by the Catholic church.  However, she loses quite a few points for being the sort of district attorney who parades out the victims for the cameras to prevent a railroaded prisoner getting parole. _

I am apparently a direct descendent of Peter Williams, who was expelled from the Methodist church for Sabellianism. Churches fight over the stupidest stuff. _

Moss in particular needs to know about this: Go Tetris. Available on the iPhone, even.  I got to level 8.   Update: level 11. It's like the ultimate purists tetris, because leaving any space at all is very nearly fatal. I haven't worked out whether it's better to just ignore the colors or to try to arrange huge kills. (exception: monocolor space can be fixed by putting together a 2nd eye) _
