Some of these investigators almost certainly used reports I helped create!  I am not simply a waste of tax dollars! _

Apparently Boston proper was feeling left out...  Least plausible denial ever.  I am curious if he has a leg to stand on, legally.  This makes it sound like he probably doesn't, but who knows.  1st amendment protection of public employees seems like a legitimately hard question, though god knows there are more sympathetic cases. Hopefully they can fire him for something else and avoid the whole mess.

A side point, and I know he isn't my mayor, but Menino doesn't even try to pretend he's not city dictator for life anymore. _

Avian Swine Flu is clearly the next thing to worry about.

Edit: after coming up with the joke, I found someone worrying about it. _

There is a video on the olde corporate webbe site where our leader allegedly explains 'how to outswim Black Swans, and how Albert Einstein's thinking applies to us'

I guess if you swim really really fast relativistic effects became important. _

Okay, so this is a 'someone said something dumb on the radio' post, and I should probably just leave it be, but someone was bemoaning the lack of scientific literacy on the radio, and used as an example that some percentage of americans don't know which is bigger, an electron or an atom, and it seems like a telling example.  That they would judge scientific literacy by the ability to recall a particular definition of terms, like science was a list of Truths, revealed by Scientists, for memorization, rather than an empirical approach to knowledge.   Which wouldn't matter if people weren't so eager to dress all sorts of ideas about how people should live up as science and have them added to the catechism.  But I'm just grumbling.  grumble grumble grumble. _

Turns out my father has a good story about losing the keys to his rental car in Wolverhampton and being arrested for looking like he was trying to break into it, or possibly for telling the policemen not to be stupid and pushing him off. _

Old Orchard Beach is full of French Canadians, to the point of being fairly well bilingual.  Which makes sense if you look at a map, and ask where people from Montreal can go to the beach.  _
