Noriel Roubini- Warning: More Doom Ahead.  Foreign Policy has a fantastic headline writer.  Funny how people's faith in prophets doesn't get shaken, they just switch prophets.  But I'm blogging this because he uses the phrase 'V shaped recession' in reference to a recession that, um, goes down and goes back up again.  As opposed to a U shaped recession, you see.  He doesn't discuss L shaped recessions.   Of course, in meteorology there is such a thing as a V shaped depression, though there, it means a particularly menacing depression.   They show up in Wodehouse stories occasionally, the expression seems to have appealed to him. _

Dieting and workplace freeganism are incompatable.  (I believe freegan is too good a word to allow it to be hijacked by morally serious dumpster divers; thus, workplace freeganism is attempting to cadge food from meetings that you weren't invited to, raiding the receptionists candy jar, etc.) _

cat vs xun
The cat has some objections to the xun I got Erika for christmas. Well, to be fair, really his initial complaint was that I was putting laundry away, but he continued to object when I then started playing the xun. I was hoping for a picture of him reaching out and trying to hit me, but this'll do, it's the mad gleam which is important.

I mean, putting the laundry away is hard enough without having the sock drawer guarded, especially after christmas when we have all these new socks. In his defense, I've also been rearranging furniture. No end of provokations. _

The relevant question isn't whether I've checked the weather forecast already tonight, it's whether I have any recollection whatsoever of what it was. _

Welcome back, internet!  It was out for about 30 hours: Verizon apparently disconnected the wrong account at the box.  Actually, it was a very good service experience.  They were helpful on the phone yesterday when I finally called them, and the two guys who came out were both polite, communicative, showed up in reasonable time, and seemed to know what they were doing.  (the first one didn't have the bucket truck needed to reach the local hub).

I also had an excellent time getting a broken radio replaced at Radio Shack yesterday.   _

I am sometimes tempted to give up video games for Go, since it's generally prettier, less expensive, more sociable and more intellectually taxing.  but Go isn't very rewarding when you're half asleep.  Maybe some combination of Go and naps, or Go and novels.   _
