On May 23rd and 24th, there's a Herring Bucket Brigade, to help the herring get over the Mystic River dam.  I think this is something I need to do at least once in my life.  _

breadpie
This was a reduced fat bacon onion tart, made with a graham flour bread dough as the crust. I was very pleased with the crust; I've totally earned my caramelized onion merit badge at this point, and using the pie pan made it much tidier than my previous attempts at quiche-pizza. The best bit was that it just lifted straight out of the pan as a single object. However, the attempt to make a custard using eggs and yogurt was a mistake; the custard didn't soak into the onions, and ended up tasting like a really bizarre yogurt frosting.

I look forward to making a bread apple-cheddar pie one day. _

Next time I drop the car off for an oil change, I'm going to put a drop of paint or something on the oil filter so I don't drive myself crazy wondering if they actually did it. Or go somewhere that, you know, doesn't give me a receipt charging me a fictitious amount of gas to make up the amount of the inspection and oil change. _

Business-speak of the day: "Managed Care has not been self-analytic enough"

Edit: Oh Lordy. Self-analytic is the key to a whole world of horrible prose. _

I hope my cat never learns that he can't jump through a double-glazed glass window, even if there is a chickadee on the other side.   Is it okay to feel glee when your cat jumps up against a window, hangs impossibly for a second on the sash, and then falls to the floor with a thump?  And now he and the chickadee are chirping at each other.  I think the chickadees learn faster than he does.   Suction cup bird feeders, the ultimate housecat accessory.  It's particularly nice around dawn, since it gives him something to do other than jump on my head. _

I really want to be anti-shoe, but I'm reluctant to try again, after what barefoot DDR did to my feet last year.  My poor weak atrophied feet.  The notion that I could stop bludgeoning my heels so much if I took shorter strides seems like it might be handy.  _

a small religious allegory
Phragmites! Sometimes I take pictures that want to be greeting cards. This one wants to be illustrating a small religious tract.

I've scaled it down by a round number before uploading it, because if I let it autoscale I get dreadful aliasing. _
