Skiing down the up elevator at Angel station
(via Rocketboom)

I've ridden that escalator! I was tempted to try to run down it! I also seem to lack focus this afternoon. I have only just discovered Rocketboom. I'm not quite sure whether I like it or not. _

Clocky puzzles cats.

I'm really quite mystified by clocky. It's hard to imagine a worse idea. I think the key is that we have a culture of gifts, which lets things that are not only useless but actually evil to be manufactured and distributed. Though I may be wrong. There are many things I can't fathom, but wanting to chase a small chirping robot around first thing every morning? It speaks to some disease of the will, that people would be reduced it inflicting such torment upon themselves. _

I didn't see any

We went here today. We obeyed the sign. I mean, I did step on a bit of grass so a lamb could get it through the fence, but I don't think they have a case. There were in fact chickens. Goats still intimidate me, intellectually. I realize they don't know everything, but they so clearly know everything they need to. I think it's the horizontal pupils, somehow.

Also, I dreamt that I was in music class. We were in groups of 3, and our assignment was to compose a piece of music 4 measures long, for a singer with a 4 note range, accompanied by a banana. Our lyrics were various arrangements of the syllables in 'Napoleon'. _

A boring haiku?
I'm sorry, but isn't that
a tautology?

graywindprints

some time ago I played around with creating black and white pictures, no gray. The trouble was very few things were easily recognisable, and could hold up decently to being so high contrast. However, it lets you focus on patterns that otherwise get lost in the shuffle. I just realized the contrast problem can be eliminated by sticking with 1 bit color, but using things other than black and white.

Things seen on the pond today:

Two pairs of nesting swans, one round back of Elizabeth Island, and another in the reed beds by the big oak.
Bluegill, both small, in the weeds, and about a dozen large, over by the Elks. They were clustering around this big bowl looking thing, looked almost like a hollowed out mortar shell. It was clearly the spot. There were also 2 largemouth bass around there, one over a foot long. They just weren't bothered at all. It felt like I could have speared them.
lots of blackbirds screaming at me. Didn't spot any nests. But apparently a gull did, it was chased halfway across the pond by one. first you could just see this big gull, flying erratically, then an angry black and red thing pursuing it.
Lots of what I think of as bluegill nests... they sweep all the sand off the rocks in a circle, 6-12 inches in diameter. At least, that's the only explanation I can think of. They look like little craters. Sunfish bowers. They often have bluegill sitting in the middle of them. Or pumpkinseeds. I saw some definite pumpkin seeds, and some definite bluegill, and some that may have been either.
I learned how to say "ack fox terrier" in goose
The neighbors down the road have motion detecting sprinklers pointed at the pond. Also, they don't respond when you try to talk to them.

So, got the inflatable kayak out for the first time in 2 years. Get it all inflated. Take the camera, as I always do, but instead of putting it in a ziplock bag, I just use the camera case. After all, it's just to keep splashes off. of course, somehow it winds up overboard in the first minute. The camera case keeps it afloat just long enough for me to notice that it's missing, turn around and grab it, but once you've said that, you've said all you can for it. The camera is now on the coffee table in pieces, to dry off. I've toweled off everything I can get to without disconnecting anything. (this sony is much better put together than the last minicamera I destroyed, a Casio.) Anyway, might as well go back out there. _
