Alberto Gonzalez this morning: "Every day is September 12th" for the US Government. Now, I remember September 12th. It was a day of complete and utter cluelessness, full of ineffectual flailing and rampant groundless speculation. I don't think that's a good motto. But that's petty. I'm curious to here whether this conspiracy was unravelled through police work and inside the rule of law. If so, it's a data point against war being the right approach to preventing terrorism, yes? I think the fundemental mistake the US made 5 years ago was the insistance that this is war, and not a crime, that such an attack was outside what our system of laws could handle, and required a suspension of civilization to solve. The mindset that suspending civilization was the thing to do, the cowboy approach, as it were, seems to have been at the center of most of our blunders.

Maybe I will take the train to Baltimore. I like my water bottle. _

A political issue I have an opinion on! I am completely pro-coyote. The issue is, more or less, should the state take action to control the coyote population to preemptively prevent attacks.

On the Coyote side of the ledger:
1: They eat things that need eating, ecosystems, nature, etc.
2: One thing that needs eating is feral cats. Stray cats being eaten is a positive good. Also geese.
3: They aren't big enough to be a real threat to humans. They are border collie sized.
4: The dog comparison... unlike dogs, they have never been bred or trained to protect territory from people, and don't think of us as rivals. They hardly ever bite anyone.
5: They're magic.
6: There isn't much the state could do anyway, they breed quickly, and would rapidly reestabilish themselves. The state already pays Tom, our remarkably level headed animal control officer, to monitor them for signs of rebellion.
7: They naturually maintain a quite small population. There is no immediate threat of them taking over or forming large packs and devouring joggers.

Against coyotes:
1: They very occasionally attack small children.
2: They can get rabies, but, consider what they eat, especially cats, they're probable a net benefit on the rabies front.
3: They eat routinely eat people's moggies, and are immediately blamed for all cats that vanish.
4: They drop anvils on people. 5: They might actually be evil gigantic wolf hybrids. _

Cycled up to the water tower on sunday... no walking, and I only stopped to not die twice. Being able to feel your pulse in your scalp is vaguely off-putting. _

Today I learned that pencil leads were in fact never made out of lead. I had thought graphite was a modern innovation. This is probably my father's fault somehow. _

My morning oatmeal has filled me with a sense of peace and goodwill. Or possibly it was my morning chocolate 'cake'. Though if you ask me, cakes have gluten and structure. This was more of a frosted pudding. In fact, I was thinking lately that the modern idea of chocolate desserts is predicated on the shared childhood experience of jello chocolate pudding.

On an unrelated note, I now have conclusive evidence that strategic account reviews are more entertaining with You Have Killed Me playing in the other ear. I may look silly wearing both headphones and a headset, but I'm happy, and that's all that matters. I should invent some sort of combined headphones/headset, so I wouldn't have to switch manually, and to let me pipe different feeds to different ears. _
