So, we we're in one of those databases that got exposed to the internet last year, Transsomething or similar, which then bought us a year of credit monitoring from equifax, which automatically renewed after a year for $130 dollars. They cancelled it like lambs, stopping only to bleat out half-hearted sales bleats, but it has left me feeling indignant. Since blogs are the traditional place for indignation, here we are. _

hold the poppy seeds

Lemon poppy seed muffins, made in a muffintop pan. What I had thought were poppy seeds were in fact black mustard seeds, and in a fit of cowardice I didn't substitute. _

Blackbird

A completely unrelated story... The other day, at dusk, something landed in a tree, and a starling started making a different noise than usual, and circling the tree. Then another starling joined in, and something large and brown flew out in an unhawk-like manner. Not being burdened with evidence, I've decided it was an owl. _

Blue Winged Teal

Taken at the Great Meadow NWR in Concord. Saw 4 wood ducks, and wished I'd brought gloves. _

bah

The trouble here is that there's nothing to tell you it was taken at a 45 degree angle, which fouls up the perspective something fierce, so I skewed it as well. But dawn climbing down the tree and all that. is an example of my latest trick, blacking out a mass of unwanted detail and then making them grey instead... Making friends with a new slider in photoshop. Incidentally, it's flipped horizontally, cause it looked like it wanted to be. I hate that in makes a difference. If I have bilateral symmetry, why shouldn't my visual sense? _

leaves with flicker

There were two flickers chasing about. After some dogs we're walked past one left, and this one flew up into the tree to make a racket. _

Streets!
Grim, relentless, sordid streets!
Miles of poignant streets,
East, West, North,
And stretching starkly South;
Sad, hopeless, dismal, cheerless, chilling
Streets!
I pace the mournful streets
With aching heart.
I watch grey men slink past
With shifty, sidelong eyes
That gleam with murderous hate;
Lepers that prowl the streets.
Men who were once men,
Women that once were women,
Children like wizened apes,
And dogs that snarl and snap and growl and hate.
Streets!
Loathsome, festering streets!
I pace the scabrous streets
And long for death.
