Walked up-marathon from mile 24 (St. Mary's) to mile 19 or so (Newton). Marathons are strange events. Charmingly good natured. People in agony run past, and you encourage them. We gave up shortly after the first mohawk, the first lobster, and the first Elvis impersonator. Don't like them starting the elite women first, because it takes away the context of how amazingly fast they are, 24th, 25th, 26th overall, but presumably the motorcades for the leaders are there for a reason, and would be unwieldy. Elegant demonstations of bell curves, marathons. _

Greenpeace co-founder embraces nuclear power. This increases my faith in the green movement somewhat, that it may outgrow it's knee-jerk directionless conservative impulses. Not enough to counteract my disillusionment over the opposition to the cape wind farm, though. Mass Audubon isn't getting any more money out of me (but I'll keep the tote bag. It's a good tote bag) I understand opposing nuclear power. I disagree, but its a reasonable mistake to make. Opposing Cape Wind is either sheer NIMBYism (RFK Jr.) or inexcusable myopia, and I say this as someone particularly fond of long tailed ducks. _
