Black Country/Brummie word I almost but didn't quite use at work thinking it wasn't quite professional of the day:

chobble vi. to eat noisily, “frequentative of ‘chop’ in sense of jaw” (Rhodes, 1950); also listed in Northall (1896) and still in common use in the Birmingham dialect.

I forgot to mention the most important things about the prairie dogs. They appeared to routinely pat down loose dirt by hitting it with their foreheads repeatedly. _
