I had 39 windows open a moment ago, 27 of them emails. I love modern computers. _

Su Doku is addictive. Sort of halfway between crosswords and magic squares, but unlike either. More like logic puzzles without the hints or the strange, incomprehensible plots. _

Ooh! The printer can scan documents and send them as emails with .pdf attachments. I very much like this. _

Not Downtown! Office will be moving around somewhere in the suburbs. Much more sensible all around. I just hope I don't have to drive. _

Being in a dark tube full of people and shaken for an hour doesn't agree with me. Sometimes I think I'd feel better if I let myself be sick, but it would be terribly embarrassing. _

According to Snopes, the thing about carrots improving eyesight started as part of a propaganda effort to cover up the invention of radar in England during WWII. _

Reflecting on Star Wars reviews: Harrison Ford is justly famous because he's the only person who has ever successfully delivered dialog in a George Lucas movie. He somehow manages to project a sense of inner life, somehow turns the deadness and artificiality of the lines into a sense of someone at odds with how they act, someone putting up a front. The character doesn't think much of his lines either, and it somehow makes sense, both for Han Solo and Indy. _

A speculative history of <CR><LF>. we can either blame copyright lawyers or lazy programmers.
I hadn't realized that Apple had <CR>s without <LF>s.

In other typewriter related thoughts, a few days ago I got confused and convinced that there was a cent sign somewhere on the keyboard.

It comes up because this morning I had to explain why you can't use the same import command for seemingly identical files, if one came off Unix and the other came off windows. _

It's only 10 miles to Revere Beach. I like the idea of walking to the ocean. Would have to plan that one though, with lots of giving-up points along the way. Also, Everett/Malden might not be the nicest places to walk. _

We walked to the Prudential Center today, by way of Allston. We didn't quite mean to, it just sort of happened. Public transportation makes unplanned urban hikes possible, and I have an unfortunate tendency to keep going once I get started. On the way, we found Infusions Tea Spa, which had serious bubble tea and yummy tea eggs. Part of a Taiwanese franchise. Had nifty sticky plastic lids that you poked a hole in with the straw, so you couldn't possibly spill the drink. A few miles later we ate dinner at India Quality, by Fenway, which wasn't thrilling, but that may be because I decided to try goat. Goat isn't quite the thing. It had the texture of mutton, only with more gristle. It's a very dark meat, with a sort of acrid, smoky sort of flavor that grew on me. If we'd gone in straight lines, it was about 8 miles. I suspect it was closer to 10, since we started off bushwacking through the alewife nature preserve. Saw Orioles, male an female, goslings, a baby rabbit and lots of thorns. Also the most photogenic animal hole I've ever seen. It's on the outside edge of a crater where a huge tree used to be, and absolutely surrounded by moss. Big enough for a cat to wriggle into.

Update: I forgot to mention the family of Killdeer on the Route 2 median strip, including 3 chicks. _

Meanwhile, allergies. I may be desperate enough to try loratadine again. I mean, it can't just be a sugar pill, if they can still charge $1 a dose. right? _
