Tim's Bloglet

I invariably become unhinged after taking a nap, long enough to dream, but not to rest. When I wake up, I feel odd until I sleep again, like the inside of my head is too warm, as though the dream released a catch, and my sense has come unspooled. I become profoundly unreasonable. _

Oog. I can't do tilt-o-whirls, and I can't watch films shot on handheld cameras. Not am matter of taste or anything, they just make me ill. At least, films shot on handhelds that really want you to remember that there is a cameraman there, so wave the thing about. Waking Life, which looks like a good, pretty movie, took it one step further, rotoscoping to make the backgrounds dance on top of the handheld swaying. Unbearable. _

Finally picked up a copy of SHEEP, the sheepherding playstation game whose very existence broke my spirit so many years ago. Haven't had the courage to play it yet. To find that your great, exciting novel idea, which is sitting, waiting to be picked up again, has been done, by professionals, and was a flop, well, it wasn't pleasant. _

I like editing photographs. I enjoy the sort of thought it requires. Each picture is a puzzle. You have to see what you can make out of it, without the confines of math, debugging, and similar. There is better, worse, and completely different. More Go than Chess. It's why I thought I'd like architecture, if I could draw, and why I think I should be designing software. I'd be better at design than the programmers and better at programming than the designers. That's the hope, anyway. Soon, I shall work on my game again. Soon, soon. Just not this minute. Perhaps if I link to it, some of you will play it, and then their will be pressure for me to work on it. Here it is. It might work. I'd test it, and write up what all the settings in the PaddleDragons.ini and the .pad files do, but I'd only put doing so off, and that would ruin the point of this bit of manipulation. Windows only. _

Lets see, it's been 12 days, so I've been reading 361 far sides, 1.5 pounds, a day. I'd recommend moderation. The worst ones are the puns. The best are a sort of proto-puns, things which are simply wrong, without rising to the level of a pun. _

Things I did not know and which may not be true: A brief primer in indian court gossip and the history of the Gandhi name. This email shows up all over, but infuriatingly, I can't find any attempts to refute it. Information about Faroze and how he came to be named Gandhi is thin on the ground. _

I appear to be depressed. My nose itches. I don't know if there's a causal relationship. _

I am more reluctant to own up to my teetotaling ways than my godlessness. This says something or other, either about me, society, or the circles I move in. _
