The background swan kept making a deep grunting noise, which did not sound friendly. _

I did not feed these swans. I never said I would. It isn't my fault if they had unreasonable expectations. _

I assume that pairs of swans and geese often match head angles because they're both looking at me, and there's an optimal viewing angle. _

It's one of the foibles of democracy that only someone as blood-drenched as Sharon, and willing to end his career to boot, has any chance of getting away with a pull-out of Gaza. He's clearly doing this because he thinks it's right; it isn't winning him any political points. And, as for negotiations, it isn't entirely clear who they would negotiate with. A better strategy than waiting for Arafat to shuffle off, or giving him a push. It doesn't solve the problem of the messianistic settlers in Hebron, but at least it's something. I can't see anything that would solve that short of civil war, and I can't ever think civil war is a good idea. Meanwhile, I will continue to try to remember that it is a very small country, and that more important things are probably happening all over the place. Chad, for instance. Sometimes, I marvel at Ohio. 11 million people live in Ohio, about the size of Israel and Palestine. Can you think of any history that has ever happened to it? Living in peace is a wonderous thing. _
