Perhaps a blog-tracking utility that graphed the time of day, day of week, and words in post for any given blog would be a good project. _

Dahlia Lithwick on the oral argument in the pledge of allegience case and Michael Newdow, who may be a new hero of mine. I don't know what to think about this as a practical matter, and I know it's trivial, I'm just happy to hear someone brave enough to bring it up. _

The BBC has a fascinating story on the failing soviet-era effort to domesticate elk.

update: Where they say elk, we'd say moose. Elk farming is apparently more feasible; traditional chinese medicine likes the velvet from the horns.

A further update: There are rumours that the lapps used to ride moose, and that the swedes tried to use them for cavalry, but they were too skittish. Also, apparently you can ride a swimming wild moose safely. I'm not sure I believe any of it. _

The top 3 stories on the BBC at the moment:
Bush aware of Al-Queda threat
New Hamas chief swears vengeance
Penguin-cam snaps amazing images
You can always be sure you'll be up-to-the-minute on penguin news with the BBC. Of course, I never fail to follow the penguin links, so perhaps it's my fault. _

Being John Malkovich would have made an excellent 1 hour TV movie; it started off well, but there was far too much filler, far too much unearned emotion. Stories that play fast and loose with reality have to put extra effort into making emotional sense, or they turn into senseless mush.

It would have been better if they hadn't shown what John Malkovich saw, if they'd simply had him going in, and had his reaction coming out. As it was, it felt like strained monty python. _

Yes, Minister is the best TV show I've seen in ages. Laughed myself sick. Rented it after coming across it in a history book, of all places. Nigel Hawthorne's smile alone is worth the price of admission. _
