In high school, I became offended with Poetry. I've made my peace with pieces of it by thinking it of wordsmithing, which I can appreciate; but I need to remember there are other aspects to the beast, and there is still a reason I became offended. _

looking at maps of the historical range of tigers. I suppose it is a good thing that there are no monsters left. We're fascinated by things that can eat us; I suppose everything with awareness is. It's still hard to feel that the world would be a better place if things lurked off by the side of the highway, devouring people who got out of their cars. _

Gak! I was going to ask whether I should be watching Angel this season, and I'm accosted by strange blue questionmarks, one of which keeps demanding Citation? and I have no answer for it. Ahh, that's because it was Mosses add page. Here I am, safe again. _

I pick up writing styles the same way I pick up small objects; I have great difficulty recalling where they came from. I just identified my current e-mail voice as Gaspode the Talking Dog. _

I'm not comfortable posting recipes out of cookbooks on the internet, because they aren't mine. But how can a recipe belong to someone? The cookbook recipe is based on other recipes. But I don't really contribute anything. If I copy it verbatim, that feels like theft; but summarized recipes with vaguely recalled amounts are worse than useless. But this Udon soup with spinach and 5 spice pork is yummy, and since the components are prepared seperately and combined just before serving, it makes a very good bagged lunch, all it needs is a microwave. I like it better now than last night, in fact; presumably because I feel like I'm cheating, and should be eating a bad deli sandwich with an unfashionable meat scavanged from a sales meeting. _

I just had a revelation as to my role in this company. I have a reputation for being able to pick things up on the fly. This means whenever they come to a cliff, I'm the one they fling off it.

This isn't quite right, but I'm trying to finish all the blog entries I start. _

I just bought a recumbent bicycle. I need a bicycle, and after riding it, I couldn't help myself. It's just... neat. Recumbant bicycles being the ones where you sit down in a seat with a back, and the pedals are out in front of your rather than underneath. There's no weight on your arms, and you're much closer to the ground, and it's easier to get the distance to the pedals exactly right. You can just put your feet down when you stop. I did have a slight mishap when I got off, and tried to kick over the back of the seat. Also got a helmet with a rear view mirror. I've always wanted a rear view mirror. Over half the cyclists here wear helmets, which makes me happy. Of course, a good percentage also wear brightly colored spandex.

History lesson: Recumbents were invented in the 1930's, but someone broke the human powered speed record on one, (they're more aerodynamic) so racing banned them, and since racing drove bicycle development, they weren't manufactured until fairly recently. Going uphills is apparently their main weakness; you can't stand up in the pedals, so all the force has to come from pushing against the seat; people just pedal rapidly in low gear. _

I think I should set up a webpage for my pong paddle breeding game. This would be a way to ease back into working on it. _

Why aren't the backs of air conditioners and refrigerators hooked up to water heaters? I feel that there may be a good reason, but I can't think what it might be. _

Reading the Mars novels by Kim Stanley Robinson made me want to create a little webthingie that lets you set the ocean level and see what the coastlines would look like. _
