So either this chest pain is nothing, or my birth control gave me a blood clot in my lung.

Fuck. P.S.: And of course a blood clot in the lung has the same symptoms as freaking the fuck out. Good thing I'm young. _

I wonder about jobs that require B.A.s -- mine, for example. I had all the skills it requires by the end of high school, and I could argue that, in some ways, my subsequent education made me less fit to do this job. (Because now I can say, "I learned Greek for this?" Except I never learned Greek, at least not more than one needs to use a lexicon.) Is this just an issue of acculturation? These days a college education is pretty much required for membership in the middle class. So maybe my B.A. suggests to potential employers that I won't disrupt the workplace with un-bourgeois behavior.

More likely, it's that high school diplomas (and B.A.s, for that matter) mean less and less, and the employers need something to sift through applicants. A few years ago, you didn't need a B.A. to get a real job (non-pink collar, I mean). Which reminds me that I totally hate everyone who made it to the work force by 1999. _

Just gave someone advice that began with, "For your own good...". Something about that phrase makes me suspect myself. Maybe because all advice is presumably for the good of the advisee, and the advisor emphasizes it in order to conceal her real motives? (Not that I'd know what those motives are -- at least, I don't consciously know.) Maybe because I really have no idea what the good is for the person I'm advising?

Also thinking about self-protection, and people who like to live dangerously. Or do they? _

I think my boyfriend is saying awesome things while pretending to be asleep. On Saturday morning he said, "I am going to advise against putting monster truck wheels on the bed," and this morning he said, "Monkeys!"

He claims to have no memory of saying this stuff, but I feel certain that he is doing it to amuse me. _

From a packet of instant chai latte:
For a creamier experience, add a splash of milk or your favorite dairy substitute.

Two things. First, what is up with using "experience" when you mean "flavor"? Is this a case of selling the feeling rather than the product? Second, "creamier experience." Ew. _

glossomania: the worst part was that they were wearing swimming suits.

A lovely crafting tea party yesterday, with scones and, um, tea. Also salad. Mostly just crafts though -- decoupage, postcards, coloring, knitting, and the like. Sumana departed from the craft theme to make art entitled "Untitled (The American Dream)" and "Untitled (The American Nightmare)".

And now there is lots of food left over, including a week's worth of scones for breakfast and strange foreign cheeses made from the milk of sheep and goats. _

Things I've left out of the blog: My boyfriend and I drove out to California from Maryland a few weeks ago so that he could live in the same town as me. (On the way we stayed with the fabulous DevRat, among others.) He has a job lined up that doesn't start for a bit, so he had plenty of time to find a place to live, and find one he did. It's a fifteen-minute walk from my house and comes with a roommate (who I haven't met yet) and a kitten (who I have). The kitten has no name yet, so I ask: What is the cutest name for a kitten? I vote for "Mister Whiskers". _
