Julia's Bloglet

Me: I really do want to go for a walk. Is it still raining?
Moss: I don't think so. Besides, what's the worst that could happen to us?
Me: We could get rained on, lightning could strike us, the world could end...
Moss: We could fall and twist our ankles and be rescued by a dashing man whom we'd fall in love with, even though he'd turn out to be a scoundrel, but we wouldn't know that and we'd marry him anyway.
Me: But that's not true. That wouldn't happen.
Moss: Which part?
Me: We wouldn't marry him. He'd turn out to be a scoundrel and not marry us because we wouldn't have enough money.
Moss; Oh, damn. That's right.
Me: And then we'd fall ill and be taken care of by a less dashing, older man who was nicer, and we'd fall in love, but it would be the right sort of love and we would marry him.
Moss: Exactly.
Me: Of course, that would never really happen. to us.
Moss: It does seem a bit unlikely. _

I have this creeping notion slithering around the back of my brain that if I just listen to enough German music, and watch enough German movies, I'll magically know how to speak it fluently (instead of just knowing how to order people to sleep or die). _

Yesterday while talking with me about After School Specials, Moss hit upon a brilliant idea. I present to you a series of school themed drinks:

The After School Special: Friesengeist (or Rumple Minze), Creme de Menthe, Chocolate Milk (preferably an individual carton from the school cafeteria).

Hot for Teacher: Calvados and Hot Damn!

Prom Night: Orange Juice, Plastic Bottle Vodka, Peach Schnapps.

The idea, of course, is that they have to be awful, but believable combinations, and theme appropriate. Suggestions welcome. _

Belle & Sebastian at The Warfield last night. Deliciously sexy. How can things manage to be soothing and energizing all at once? Yum. The best bit was when they were just talking while waiting for something to get sorted out, and this boy near the front said it was his birthday, so they asked what his name was, and he said it was Nico, and they found that really amusing and played "I'll Be Your Mirror" and even sang with accents. It was delightful. And hilarious. Also, Moss and I were noting just how non-hip we looked in the crowd of carefully selected corduroys and trucker hats and tight thrift store shirts and such, but then the band came out and Sarah was dressed like us in a plain shirt and jeans that weren't fitted and regular type running shoes. We concluded that were are too hip to try hard at dressing hip. _

Yesterday, as I was restlessly perusing the Maryland Souvenirs shop at BWI ("Beyond Security. Shops, Fast Food, Lounges and More!"), I heard a song by Dido, and it stuck in my head for the rest of the day... and is still there, which is annoying. Go away, Dido song! I don't want you here now. Anyway, it's even worse because it always makes me think of fangirls and slash because it has the words "go down" and "ship" in it. And that tells you I know far too much about fangirls and slash to begin with. Damn. _

"Let's Stay Together" is playing now in the BWI Burger King. What is up with this music selection? Martin already pointed out one of the other bizarre selections. My sister and Moss are discussing politics. I am trying to ignore everything that would require me to think about well... anything. Flying is not the time for thinking. It is the time for making the time go away as quickly and painlessly as possible. Thankfully, I have a romance novel with me. Meanwhile, Martin reads over the side of the screen (not actually over my shoulder, which Martin points out would be inaccurate). I am confused as to whether this weekend was actually sevenor eight days, or just one day long. _
