All right. It's a bit smallish at the moment, but it will be augmented as our ranks increase. _

My mom bought me a driving lesson for my birthday.

"Hello. My name is talking Akbar, and I have extremely ambivalent feelings about you."

Today I answered questions about:

Stained Glass Windows,
Floods and Rich Fishermen,
Tarantulas and Digger Wasps,
The Gullah Culture of the Sea Islands,
Old and Young Stars,
and Dada.

Also things I had never heard of, and some I had. Those were trickier.

I spent $21 on four books, and two of 'em are all read up already.

I met a person who was named for the same reason and in the same way I was, because her parents were like my parents for a while. She plays the violin, too. We played Haydn.

I saw a movie. Guess it if you can. Slaughtered pigs, car wrecks, lurid truth-telling with the shades down, forest guerillas, revolutionary ponces, drummers and butchers, pianists, illegitimate conjurers, peasants, fire, sandwiches, garbage trucks, rabbits, sheep, and literature met in the road. _

Why I Should Be The Blogmass's Shadow Government Representative When the US Government Falls:

I) Socratic ideal of distaste and repugnance for command.

II) Extensive earlytraining.

III) Ability to subsist entirely on dryer lint, pinto beans, and Marmite.

IV) Acclaimed mutant-befriending skills.

V) 14 years documented survival in a paranoid lawless wasteland.

VI) Can squeeze into small spaces such as exoskeletons, atomic cannons, and interplanetary escape capsules.

VII) Keeps well-treasured copy of Lord of the Flies under pillow. _

To round off a spiffing day, my mom apparently sent me a virus. I don't know how I got it, though... there weren't any attachments to open (I don't generally open attachments anyway), I use PC-Pine, which is a fairly resistant mail client, and I have Norton Utilities installed and updated. It detects the virus but can't get rid of it, and when I scan my files, it shuts down my computer a quarter of the way through, and I have to start from the beginning. It's done this eight times. And there's a cool famous doctor guy coming to talk to anyone who's interested in medicine tomorrow, but it's during my lab class. And Mr. Thompson (who is a sweetie-pie) said I've been looking "strung-out" lately. I'm not supposed to be strung out. I'm supposed to be mellow and copacetic. Fraugh. It was a good seminar, though, on a damn good book. Oh, and I'm hungry, too. But I had my first fencing bout and it was fun despite great degrees of spazziness. (`8 Finch on a stick. _

I went to the Registrar's office in the last week of January and asked them to send out transcripts to six post-bacc programs. A few weeks ago I went again and asked them why none of them had gotten there yet. They said they'd sent 'em out. I had 'em send out a new batch just in case. The deadlines are mostly around March 1st. They promised at least one set of transcripts would get there by March 1st. None of 'em are there yet. GODDAMNIT. Plus, people's senior orals have been scheduled and rescheduled, because they don't particularly want to miss the Mendel practica to go to their own orals. They also scheduled my French/Art class over my music practica, but hey. And then the Registrar decided to go on vacation this week. _

Grrrargh. The internet keeps turning on and off, my computer keeps shutting itself down with no warning and for no reason, and I don't want to get out of bed or get dressed. Ever again. No sir. I'm gonna sit here and fiddle with my watchband and watch Idomeneo a hundred gajillion times and I'm never gonna get up again, and nobody's gonna stop me! _

I've heard so many actors speak in that West Country yokel accent, so many freaking times -- but I've never heard anyone who actually had one. Is it dead or something? Why is it the quintessence of British hickdom still, then? I've heard every other accent I can think of, both by actors imitating them and people who really spoke that way, except for that one. I demand an explanation! _

Hell of a day. Slept a lot. Didn't go to the doctor's office (sorry, Ma.). My oral got changed to 4:15. Swam. Storytellers was held out in the hall of Anderson, 'cause the Grammys were on in upper commons. It meant we got to be with a cat, though, name of Bert. All fine 'till he got his tail caught in my paddle ball. Rikki-tikki-tavi, Ferdinand, Lady of Shalott, more of the Terry Pratchett, a story about a pear seller and one about a hippo, and a bit of the Little Prince. I think there was another very cool thing that happened today, but for the life of me, it's gone. The coolest of all, though, is something unexpected. I was in a bloody yahoo chat room (why? hell, I dunno), and I ran into someone who I hadn't said a word to since high school. Met him on IRC; used to talk for hours. Lovely fella. Composer -- used to be into Mahler, but now it's serial music. Gor blimey. But who'd have thunk I'd find him in a bloody yahoo chat room? I'd gone looking for him a few times on the web, but he was nowhere to be found. Serendipitous. And quite nice. _
