Oh! I didn't mention this but my improv team Proletariat Princess is going to be performing in New York on August 10th as part of the Del Close Marathon! DCM is one of the biggest (if not _the_ biggest) improv gatherings in the world. Some of the best groups from all over the country will be there, rocking hard.
If you're in the area, come out on Sunday and see this thing that I am so incredibly fortunate to be a part of. You'll need to buy a DCM pass, but that will allow you to see some great improv for the entire weekend. I'll be happy to pass on recommendations. (I hear those Proletariat Princess kids are awesome)

Here's my synaesthesia mix. I'll post the track listing in comments later this evening. As always, I'm terrible at listening to lyrics, and was mostly looking for musical texture to evoke the feeling. The hardest ones were Jason's and Mirabai's. I'm most happy with Fred's. Thanks to everyone who asked for a song, this was a fun challenge!
(thought I forgot anne's song, but it's there now)

Kicking some ideas around. Sorry for the file size, but smaller jpgs weren't retaining any of the brilliance of the original, and it doesn't really work small.
Thinking of ways to relaunch my comics, specifically The Mule, and this is what came out. I was having a devil of a time with the background, which I wanted to be a sort of gritty indistinct futurescape. Clearly a city but not necessarily a familiar one. Kept eluding me until I remembered how much I liked Paul Pope's rough, unfinished city stuff in Batman: Year 100. So I did a (very) poor man's Paul Pope. I think it turned out well, nice and forboding. A good place for Grey to have adventures.

Call me a sap, or say that I missed the boat the first time around, but this video of a guy named Matt doing a goofy dance around the world, and inviting other people to join in, is one of the most beautiful things I've seen on the internet in a long time.
Where the hell is Matt homepage

(Stolen whole from Mirabai)
1. You guys tell me what kind of music you want.
2. In a few days, I'll post one mp3 for each of you.
You can't request music by band name or genre. You have to describe, in terms of color, mood, texture, taste, or any other creative way you can think of, what you're looking for in a song, and I'll do the best I can with what I have. Yes, that means that I may end up posting a song that you wouldn't normally listen to. That's part of the fun.
I can't use more than one song by any given band. The point of this meme is to give you a taste of new stuff, not to pirate whole CDs. If you like what you hear, you'll still need to buy it yourself. If two of you come up with identical descriptions, I have to find two bands that both fit, or use one song for both of you.
I can't make the song permanently available. Unless the song in question is already available on the band's website (in which case, I'll provide a link to their site instead of posting an mp3), I'll be taking the songs down in a few days, or posting them on a temporary host so that they'll expire after a few days.

Man . . . one of my favorite albums of all time on Rock Band. The Pixies, Doolittle. What an odd, but awesome, choice!

So Liz got me Rock Band for the PS2 for my birthday. It's super-fun, and I'm hoping to have folks over sometime to rock out with little plastic instruments.
The main drawback of PS2 Rock Band is that it has non-expandable content, unlike the HD-equipped and internet-capable PS3 and XBox360. It would be crazy if they never released more than core content for the PS2 version, I thought, and I thought right.

Mirabai,
I can only concur with Julia. This is a tough one. You'll get it.
Then you can wear a shirt that says, "Steno Stud."
I'll make it for you.

My friend Mary Sasson is a kick-ass young standup comedian who is competing to go the Rooftop Comedy National College Competition. Her milieu is a frothy shake of pop culture awareness and observational humor, completely devoid of 'am I right girls' cliches and stale shock value. It's the real deal. I encourage you to watch her routine. If you enjoy it (and I think you will), please create a login and vote for her. Send this unique voice to Aspen.
