Synopsis for acts one and two of the opera done! (614 words) Once we have the story laid out we can work on putting it into the proper format. Now I think just a bit more on the story I started last night and then a nice nap. Sore throat monsters have invaded. grar. _

694 new words on a whim. I felt silly for telling Moss not to read what I was writing, but I just can't help feeling all weird and embarrassed if anyone reads the screen. Thankfully, he understood. Maybe tomorrow I'll start plot outline for the opera we decided needs to be written. _

Yes, some cleaning needs to be done. I just tripped over a grocery bag and then stumbled across the floor with my left foot stuck in the iPod box while wearing jeans, tennis shoes, a chemise and lace-up overdress. I should probably stop trying on old costume pieces and clean so my life stops resembling a bad slapstick comedy. _

Me: I've never owned a BMW.
Moss (after drinking): I've never owned a slave.
Me: I've never owned a slave either. What kind of queston is that?
Moss: I don't know. I just thought I'd throw a random one out there and see if it hit.
Me: So you chose owning a slave? What the fuck, Moss?
Moss: I don't know. It's not expected to make sense. I don't make sense to myself. _

Hurrah! The printer decided to work again! Now I have some pages on carrying power, warming up, and general care of the voice to go along with the stuff I already had on breathing. I think it'll be a good bundle to read carefully on the plane tomorrow. Hmm, I wonder if Caprina Lynn would let me borrow this 26 Italian Songs and Arias book...

The discount dance catalogue has some good shoes and a resistance band for me. I'm still undecided about which route to go on leotards and tights, though. I have to make up my mind by tomorrow. I was gonna link to the leotard that would come with free tights, but which I am not really sold on and ask for your input, but the discount dance site is being all grarlike and refusing to load on Madre's crappy ancient computer. Grrrrr. _

Voice lessons are expensive, but teh intarweb can give me some help with texts and essays and such. I suppose it's a start. Sadly Madre's printer suddenly stopped working on me for no apparent reason. At least I got nine pages of breathing stuff first. Now to go figure out what I need to order from Caprina Lynn's discount dance catalogue. _

At Deidra's parents' house the other day we hung out with Deidra's sister Desiree and her 2 month old baby. Desiree found the perfect lullaby:

Please shut up
Please shut up
I don't want to hear you anymore
Please shut up
Please shut up
I'm going to rip out your vocal chords

The baby loves it. _

Wrote up all the exam answer sheets, mailed the two letters I wrote the other day, did the dishes, took foreign exchange student to school and later picked her up again. The productivity continues. I was listening to Mirabai's blogswap mix in the car and remembered that I forgot to post my newest vocab addition.

Mirabulous: (adj.) Something so good, it must be one of Mirabai's creations. These brownies are simply mirabulous!

I really can't wait to hear all the rest of the mixes when I get home the day after tomorrow. I really just can't wait to get home. Not that I dislike my family or anything. They're great. But yes, home. _

Someone found my blog by googling for 'Lesbish bar'.

On a completely unrelated note, I am super productive woman today! Rrrrrraaaarrrrrrr! Things I have done:
*Dishes
*Laundry (washing and folding)
*Chck bank balances (here and in France) and pay bills --Thanks Sarah!
*Get bank to accept my euro check
*Grocery shopping
*Write two (2) letters on Bette Midler stationery
*Prepare enchiladas for tonight's Mexican party
*Take paintings down from my sister's closet so I can take them up North to Moss's
*Pick up foreign exchange student from school
*Write all the e-mails I've been putting off

I think I have definitely earned the margaritas we are going to have when Madre and Caprina Lynn and all our invitees arrive. _

Tanya | Sunday, August 24th at 02:41 PM
What's the best thing about teaching in a different country?

Being in a different country, of course!

Martin | Sunday, August 24th at 06:12 PM
What's the one thing most likely to tempt you from a life of virtue?

This really depends on your definition of virtue. If a virtuous life means like vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, then probably sex/love. If a virtuous life mean being true to myself and not worrying about others' standards of virtue, then I suppose it would take quite a bit more.

Katherine | Sunday, August 24th at 07:23 PM As a kid, did you have favorite things you imagined doing, and what were they?

Yes! I imagined that I had a friend named A.E., who was always rescuing me. Then when she saved the day I'd say, "A.E., I Owe You!" I also imagined flying an dliving in different magical worlds. And I had great plans to build a huge hotel and restaurant with food from 100 different countries.

anne | Sunday, August 24th at 08:43 PM if you had to do one or the other, would you rather have to enter a gymnastic competition as an amputee, or compose a symphony while deaf?

That's a no-brainer! Obviously the gymnastics competition. Even if you sucked people would be like, "Dude, how did she do that with no arms?!" If you went for deaf composition, you'd never beat old Ludwig. Other questions welcome. _

So we went to Gay Karaoke (after the dictionary game and the Baron Muchausen game, both of which kicked ass), and then to the Oxford where Mira-Mira ate sheeps' brains. This visit gets more amazing by the minute, I tell you. Tomorrow Madre and I will be in Seattle. Maybe we shall meet anyone at all and maybe not. Oh yeah, and Mirabai and I totally rocked out with "Smells Like Teen Spirit". She even harmonized! How much does that rock? _

Road trip is progressing nicely even though we got a late start due to a string of minor catastrophes. We saw one of the world's largest balls of twine today. Unfortunately the entire town (though calling it a town seems a bit generous; how about the entire street that had been frozen in time in the depression) of Cawker City had run out of postcards, but we were crafty and put in an order with the postmistress. She'll send them to us in California as soon as they come in. Now it's on to Kansas City where we may or may not see Neil (prolly not by the looks of it) and further East until we tire. _

Yesterday was exciting. I got new glasses (picture to follow eventually), found white tea and ginger bubble bath (yum!), and got to see Ben Folds and Tori Amos in concert. Also, I drove part of the way home and didn't kill anyone (or Moss's car). The driving was exciting because I hadn't done it in almost a year. Good warm up for the road trip I'll be embarking on come Sunday. The concert was entirely lovely, but the highlight had to have been when Tori Amos told this great story about being with her daughter in San Francisco. Relevant conversation snippet below.

Daughter: I want to live here.
Mother: What would you do if you lived here?
Daughter: Get a tattoo.
Mother: You're two and a half!
Daughter: I'm two and three quarters. _

Okay, road trip plans have begun to really take shape. It looks like we'll be in Missoula either the 14th or 15th and stay until the morning of the 18th (provided Mirabai and her family are amenable to this schedule). From there we'll go to Seattle. We should arrive the evening of the 18th and probably will stay over until at least the afternoon of the 19th, but possibly until the morning of the 20th. When we leave Seattle we'll head down to Southern California. We'll take the five through Washington and Oregon and then cut over to the 101 in California. If you live along this route and would like to see us (us in this case being my mother and me), give a shout out on this here bloglet thingy and maybe we can arrange something. _

On the way down to my mother's house, Moss and I ate breakfast at the Madonna Inn's Copper Cafe. The Madonna Inn is a Gloriously Gaudy place that the site's pictures don't quite do justice to, but you can see the inscription above the bar in the third picture on the Copper Cafe page. We had an excellent view of it from our table. It says, "Let's eat and be forever happy." _

Last blog from France. Isn't this exciting? I've been up for far too many hours. Only thirty-sevenish to go. I know I'm tired because a taxi driver was v. pissy with me for not having correct change and I just got all aggressive back instead of lowering my head and being submissive. Raaaaarrrr! And to close out this three part blog bombing, some little gems from the heaps of exams I've been marking. The first is from an exercise in which the students read the title and first paragraph of an article and were to come up with a new title of their own. The second is about Martha Stewart.

"Liz Hurley fond of men to be Lesbish." (One wonders how Miss Knight feels about the word Lesbish...)

"She looks like a 'good' wife but she's bad and worseful." Mmmmmm, Engrish. _

One of the things I loved about Annapolis was the abundance of hydrangea bushes. Happily, Nancy also has them. I love the way the flowers appear in balls and can be marvelous shades of pink and blue in the same bunch. It seems like faeries enchanted them, but couldn't agree on one color. Unfortunately I can't find a really good image here. If I were Tim, I'd have my own digital photos to share, but of course I'm not Tim. Ah, well, so it goes. _
